he was consistent at his time at millwall - one of their best players, but he is 32 now, and i dont think he has enough quality for the prem imo

SOUTHEND and Plymouth lead the chase to land Millwall star Matt Lawrence - but Palace could still swoop for the defender.

Lawrence has told Lions manager Nigel Spackman he is 100 per cent committed to The Den - but clubs are now queuing up for the centre-back.

The 32-year-old was told last season he could leave if the right offer came in, but he said: "I have not been made aware of any formal approaches - and until that day comes,I am 100 per cent committed to Millwall.

"My approach will be highly professional, as the manager is entitled to expect. If Nigel says otherwise, I will take it from there."

Whilst Southend and Plymouth have shown firm interest in signing him, a move to Palace hinges on the future of Eagles full-back Emmerson Boyce.

Why why why why would we possibly be in for this player. He is the wrong side of 30, has never been very good, and is now at his natural level. I appreciate that we need at least one more central defender, but surely we ca do better than this even on a tight budget.

After all, Johnson of Wycombe and Dobson from Brentford have both recently gone to Championship clubs who would appear less attractive than Palace for fees of around 300K. Surely tese would have been better options as cover than Lawrence, and would probably cost no more over a 2-3 year period than Lawrence when wages are taken into account, even if Lawrence is on a free.

Dreadful dreadful signing if true

LAWRENCE JUST RIGHT AT PALACE
CRYSTAL PALACE boss Peter Taylor is planning to raid neighbours Millwall for right-back Matt Lawrence - as he prepares to sell Emerson Boyce to the highest bidder.

Lawrence, 32, could make the move shortly as Taylor reshuffles his side and faces up to the sale of unsettled Boyce to either Wigan or Charlton in a £1.5m auction in the next few days.

Boyce has told Taylor that he prefers Wigan - teaming up with his pal Fitz Hall - to Charlton where Iain Dowie wants him as a squad man.
