Booking essential Official Palace Travel Coaches: Depart Selhurst Park at 12.30pm. Fare is 18.00 for guests, 17.20 for season ticket holders and 13.50 for gold members By Car From M1 - exit M1 junction 33 (signposted Sheffield (Centre), Rotherham A630). At roundabout follow signs to ‘Sheffield Centre A630’ onto the A630 dual carriageway. At Victoria Quays Roundabout after 5.3 miles follow signs for ‘City Centre A61’. At Park Square Roundabout after 0.2 miles take 3rd exit (Ring Road, Chesterfield A61) into Sheaf Street. Pass Railway Station on the left on to Sheaf Square roundabout. Take 1st exit (Ring Road, Chesterfield A61, Bramall Lane), turn right at next lights (Ring Road, Bakewell A621) into Shoreham Street. Straight ahead at first set of lights (Ring Road, Bramall Lane) and straight on at next. Ground is on right hand side after 0.1 miles. Or leave M1 at junction 34 and go towards Sheffield City Centre. At the inner ring road follow signs for A621 Baslow. Ground is ¼ of a mile away. From Chesterfield (A61) - at first roundabout on edge of Sheffield go straight on (signposted Sheffield A61, Lowedges) at Meadowhead roundabout go straight on (City centre A61). Carry on A61 for 3 miles - down a long hill, past Bridge Inn on RHS and over river bridge. At lights bear right into Queen’s Road. Turn left just after Earl of Arundel and Surrey pub (City Centre A621, Barnsley A61). Take left fork where road divides - this is Bramall Lane. Parking Parking is not easy around the ground as it is a built up area, but you should be able to park in a street within at least 10 minutes walk. Directions from Railway Station To go straight to the ground turn left out of station – right fork after 100 yards & keep going. To get to Sheffield city centre, come out of the main station exit and turn right, cross at the pedestrian crossing (towards the big Sheffield Hallam University student's union with the sign 'Welcome to Sheffield'). Turn right to get to the main bus station- 5 mins walk (if you want to go straight to the ground), or left to get to the city centre. Follow the path round and take the next pedestrian crossing towards 'The Howard' pub (Mansfield). This is a big black and white building. To get to the city centre from here, go up the hill (steep narrow road) with the university on your right, and another pub on your left. Keep walking up the steep hill until you get to the main road (with the Novotel hotel opposite). Cross this road by walking to your right until you get to the pedestrian crossing (by the space age looking university library -'The Adsetts Centre'). Cross the road, and turn right- ( or left to get to another great pub normally full of fans- 'the Yorkshire Grey')- until you get to the Crucible (perhaps the most famous sight in Sheffield and mecca for snooker fans). You can perhaps get a drink in the Crucible bar (where you can drink Stones- the local Sheffield brew). To carry on into the centre, turn left at the Crucible and walk across the pedestrianised square and head up the alley with the big church on your right. This takes you into the heart of the city The ground is about a 15-25 minute walk from the station, or there are taxis, or buses from the bus station (directions above) buses 13, 15, 15, 18, 252 & 253 run from Arundel Gate (opposite Crucible theatre) no 39 runs from the bus station. There are always plenty of black cabs at the station, which would cost just over £3. The walk into town above takes only about 10-15 mins, but it does involve a very steep hill... Those with restricted access, may wish to consider a bus or the supertram which is at the back of the station (platform 8 I believe). You pay on the tram, and the stop I would recommend for the city centre is 'Castle Square'. However, no trams go to directly to Bramall Lane the nearest stop is Granville Road, about 3 minutes walk from Bramall Lane Recommended Pubs Unfortunately, not many of the good Sheffield pubs are near the station or United's ground The Red Lion, 109 Charles Street (0114 272 4997) between Arundel Gate and Arundel Street -10 minutes walk from the ground (between the station & the ground) The pub is a decent football friendly pub serving real ale plus food at lunchtime. Kids are welcome so long as they go in the conservatory. The Howard Pub (Mansfield) 37 Howard Street In terms of pubs, most away supporters use the Howard which is opposite the station. The bitters are Mansfield and Mansfield Smooth (nice) or Riding bitter. The Howard serves decent food, and there is a pool table and various games machines. Breakfast served from 10am. Lunches 11-4. Disabled facilities Open all day for midweek games The Globe is further up the same hill and is usually full of Palace fans when we’ve been there before. They do a great cheap range of burgers/dinners in there. The other alternative is to head into town(5 minute walk from the station), where there are plenty of pubs to cater for all tastes. Rutland Arms, 86 Brown Street (0114 272 9003) - this pub is also between the station and the football ground and serves a good range of real ales. It also has an award-winning garden, apparently. The Golden Lion (69 Alderson Road) – small fan friendly pub about 50 yards from the away entrance – lets in away fans! Sandwiches served. TV. Families welcome. Open 11.30-3.30 & from 5.30 for midweek games The Royal Hotel, Abbeydale Road – Enormous pub, good matchday atmosphere. Bar snacks served 12-2.30 and on a Saturday after match till 8pm. Also a restaurant with meals from around 3 quid. Pool table, snooker, big screen TV, familes welcome. Open all day. Champs (315-319 Ecclesall Road (about 3/4 mile from Bramall Lane) Meals & snacks available all day from 12. Families welcome/children’s menu. 49 TV’s Open all day from 11.30. There is another pub – the Penny Black – you walk out of the station – turn right – through the bus station – out the other end and the pub is across the road – usually a few Palace fans at previous games in Sheffield etc. There is either the city centre (Weatherspoons, RSVP, All Bar 1), West Street or Division Street. To get to west street, get on a blue tram at the station, pay £1 for a all day ticket, and then continue to the West Street Stop. There are loads of pubs here, the Varsity, Walkabout Inn, Hallamshire Hotel, Rat and Parrott are all recommended. Division Street runs parrell to West Street, and has some more 'upmarket' bars. to return to Brammell Lane, simply get onto a blue tram, and get off at 'Granville Road/ Sheffield College (next stop from station)'. Food A hot roast pork sandwich with crackling and apple sauce can be bought from Cooplands bakers (a true Sheffield delight). There are about 2 or 3 branches in the city centre. There are also a selection of the usual restaurants in the city centre (a Macdonalds, Burger King, Pizza Hut). There is also a mobile burger van outside the John Street Stand. London Road has lots of takeaways, although best not to wear colours. |

Boo! So who is making the trip? My chauffeur (917k) and I will be in attendance, along with the tactically astute Eddie McGoldrick's 'tache. Feather tells me he's there, the Cumbrian contingent and arussell have confirmed. Can't believe NTE won't make it either. Will we be alone? Drinking - looks like the Red Lion to me? Golden Lion has the advantage of proximity, but my memories of last year tell me the area immediately around the away end is far from salubrious (think Rotherham away end, if you were there!) Anyone who isn't Jaffa is welcome to join myself and the driver...

I am not going tommorow but when I lived in Sheffield Champs did half price cocktails to 8 every night. The Howard was a decent pub as well.

Alas, this will also be one I will miss. Given that the only three league games I missed last season when I could have gone were WBA (away), Barnsley (away) and Fulham (home) I hope my knack of missing truly abysmal performances doesn't keep running.
