Saturday, Croydon won 1-0 away to Cove.

Their game was called off today at short notice and it is rumoured that they are about to go broke having run out of money. Hope that they get themselves sorted. I know there are presumably historic reasons why there are 2 teams in Croydon but it seems crazy to see them both struggle on separately like this.

All I know is that Croydon were unable to field a side last Saturday. The Croydon Grauniad say there was a mass walkout of players, but this has not been confirmed. However, the game on Saturday 6 November away to Egham is going ahead, as the Combined Counties League have received an assurance from Croydon that they can put out a side.

What is it with players walking out as soon as the money stops? Players getting paid at level 4 is pretty daft. At level 5 it's just wrong.

i stand to be corrected by people closer to the club,but Croydon FC have been in the borough LONGER that Croydon Atheletic FC,who were formerly known as Wandsworth and Norwood fc;i cannot rememebr why the old team moved into the borough?

They moved into the borough, because thats where the people that ran the club came from, Norwood is pretty local as well, Over 25 years in the Borough now

Croydon FC were formed in 1953, and Wandsworth FC and Norwood FC merged and moved to Croydon in 1986, becoming Wandsworth and Norwood FC.

I hope they sort themselves out. Such a shame to see small local clubs struggling.
I do know there was unrest there when they played Guildford City last week.

So the rumours about running out of money and player walkouts weren't true after all. The reason why Croydon was not able to field a side last Saturday was due to the manager/chairman who was taken ill and admitted to hospital.

Knew Dickson had been taken ill but can't see that as a reason for cancelling a fixture. There's more to it than that.

Just to confirm that Croydon's game is on this afternoon. There are a couple of Combined Counties League games at Knaphill and Colliers Wood that have been called off due to waterlogged pitches. But Croydon's pitch is OK
