Who did we wear it against ? I don't think I've ever seen it. (It's not on that poster as far as I can see. You're thinking of the Hummel sash kit that was white at home and usually red away aren't you ?)
There's another obscure kit that our up-coming appearance in the 4th round of the FA Cup got me thinking about. When we played West Ham in the 4th Round in 83/84, we had that Adidas red & blue striped kit, so West Ham wore all-white in the original tie at Selhurst. But what did we wear for the replay ? The normal away kit was a plain red shirt with either black or white shorts but that would have clashed with West Ham's claret & blue. I vaguely recall us wearing a one-off 3rd kit; maybe either all-yellow or all-white. Anybody remember ? |

Do you mean the shirt that was all blue with a solid red sash? Yes it did exist, but I have had no joy finding a photo of it. And I'm sure a team wore it in a Kids TV series from the '70's called "Striker" but can't find anything about that either. |

I remember Striker and it was similar to this kit. The main character was some blonde haired kid and his dad was the manager I think and they also had a girl in the team. All very strange for the time when you think about it. |

My first ever Palace shirt was blue with a red sash, but it was earlier 1980's than 85/86, very "silky", and made by adidas....I guess you already know about that shirt.
Could be this hummel version was a one-off. I remember Palace wore a one off all white one away at Bradford in the late 1980's (Ian Wright was pictured in it in shoot! magazine from memory)

I brought that kit when I was at Junior school. It countered the itchy Admiral kit of the past with a smooth silky feel. It was addidas

My first Palace kit was this one - big stitched on badge.
Definitely not 1985 though as I would have been 6 or 7 when I had it bought for me. So I'd say about 1982/3 |

Andy and I have had this discussion before, I went to most away games the seasons in we used Hummel and never saw us wear it, indeed I didn't know it existed until Andy produced his brilliant kit gallery.
From memory, we used three shirts in those seasons: The White Sash, The Red Sash (both of which were on sale from the club shop) and All yellow with blue Hummel chevons. Andy's kit gallery shows the latter shirt as having red chevrons, against I don't remember that shirt, but do distinctly remember the blue chevrons version. One came up on ebay a while ago. I have to say though, that Andy is more than likely right, these shirts did exist and it's my memory that is at fault.

And the last episode featured them all having a kick about at Selhurst Park....I think Len Chatterton made a guest appearance. Back to the shirt, I remember the Adidas one was a lighter blue, we had a couple left in the stockroom for ages when I worked for Just Leisure in Penge. Wanted to nick them but it would've been too obvious who'd done it. ![]() Remember a Hummel one which was in a darker (royal?) blue. |

I seem to remember Charlton being forced to wear our blue with red sash kit when we played them at Selhurst possibly during the time the groundshare was happening, we were the home side for the fixture. I'd guess it was in 1984.

The yellow/red hummell chevrons are now blue! I am convined I saw this shirt (blue with red/white sash) in a Palace photo around the time.

The hummel yellow one with blue chevrons was worn in the Centenary kit parade (see gallery)

Correct me if I'm wrong but I think I recall the Hummel yellow/blue effort being worn against Fulham away towards the end of the season. Not sure whether it was 85/86 or 86/87 but I think it was the first time Coppell played Tony Finnigan at right back.

The kit does exist! I've seen a picture of it. Blue with a white and red sash right?! We only wore it in one game! |

If you think that it was worn in a first team game in 85/86, then by a process of elimination it was probably worn against a team wearing red & white stripes which would have clashed with both 1st & 2nd choice strips.
That season, the teams that wore that were Stoke, Sheffield Utd and Sunderland. I went to the Stoke & Sheff Utd games and I'm pretty sure we wore all-yellow and definitely not blue w/ sash. That leaves Sunderland. Does anybody remember actually seeing this kit in a match rather than seeing it on a chart of team's colours. It's a kit that you can imagine people thinking that it should exist as the logical 3rd choice, but I'm not convinced that it ever did. Why would they produce a 4th kit when white, red and yellow kits already existed ? It's not as if there was an enormous market for replica kits in those days, particularly 4th kits for poorly-supported mid-table 2nd Division teams that never got worn and it can't ever have been actually needed because of a colour clash. Maybe it was prototype (or whatever the word is) that was worn in a pre-season friendly but never manufactured. |

If only I could find the programme it's in.
I'm sure it was against someone totally random like Grimsby or something like that! ![]()
