We played Coleman upfront as an experiment during the goal baron spell. That didnt work either.

he did ok TBF. Sir Steve put him up top towards the back end of the 91/92 campaign and he replied with 4 goals from the final 7 games. He was then used sparingly up top when we had injuries in the 92/93 campaign, and he still got 7 league and cup goals. Armstrong always excelled off a target man and that was exactly what cookie did albeit with limited ability.

He had played up front the previous season and scored quite a few, hadn't he?

Centre half to centre forward made fashionable by Paul Warhurst at Sheff Wed.

Made unfashionable again by Coleman.

Watching him play in the league cup semi final first leg against Arsenal, against their back 4 was embarrassing.

Paul Warhurst looked like Messi against us, looked a mess when he signed for us.

But TBF what was telling in that campaign was our goals total - 34 - Which was the lowest in the Prem that season.
1994/95 - The season that Palace were in the last 4 of all competitions !
Pretty sure it was an amazing 49points we were relegated with

Coleman was playing up top before Warhurst did

they had a cracking defence at the time and what other options did we have up top? Armstrong was cup tied, Williams was injured, Grant Watts was a 19yr old rookie out of his depth and then Cookie we didn't really ha

unfair to say that, he was a quality footballer when fit for us and read the game so well, and probably the only player (outside Jansen) who had any sort of understanding to Lombardo's awareness, but unfortunately his career was blighted by injury.

Paul Warhurst did not come to Palace until 1997/98 season, 30 appearances and scored 4 goals.
Problem with getting old all the seasons start to melt into 1.

The issue with Warhurst wasn't his ability, just that he never played due to injury.

Just watching the first Match of the Day of the Premier League and Chelsea are beating Oldham 1 nil when Dave Beasant inexplicably scuffs a clearance with five minutes left to Nick Henry who scores from 40 yards to steal a point.

Beasant's performances that season were highly suspect to put it mildly. The above was one of a number of gaffes that culminated in this infamous performance against Norwich. Chelsea's fans were already on his back and their reaction to this match prompted Chelsea manager Ian Porterfield to announce in his post-match interview for Match of the Day that Beasant would never play for Chelsea again becoming the first top-flight footballer to be effectively sacked on national television.

To view the link you have to Register or Login

(As it turned out, Beasant's Chelsea career outlived Portfield's)
