which mp3 player to go for ?
i'm looking to finally get an mp3 player, but know pretty much nothing about them. the only one i've ever used is an Ipod, which i'm wary about getting as they're prone to go wrong.

what other options are worth considering ?

The only thing I will say is the software that comes with all but the Ipod's one are clunky and slow. Only Itunes is quick.

I'd steer clear of Sony if they are still pushing SonicStage on everyone. It is a rubbish program which only works on Windows meaning that I can't use my own computer to add songs to my mp3 player.

Depends how often you want to change what you've got stored on it.

Mine is an i-river H340 with 40Gb hard drive. I forget how many albums I have on it and still have 6Gb free

It's 4 years old and, yes, the battery goes a bit quickly (dont they all eventually?)

Lovely sound, though, really easy to set up and copy to/from my PC.

just transfered all my tunes onto i-tunes, as has better set-up than windows media player. can you only transfer i-tunes to I-pods, or do other mp3s accept them. christ it was all easier with vinyl...

I'm thinking about dragging myself into the 21st century and getting one.

Ideally I'd like one that just plugs into a USB port and you load what you want without all this software and network/itunes nonsense.

4-8gb should do it.

Any suggested machines?
