Falmer - 22,374 or 14,318 ?
Genuine question - almost everywhere I read about the new ground in Falmer, it says the capacity will be 22,374, however there's an article on the 'net saying it will initially be a 2 sided ground with only 14,318 seats........
Phase one: Two sides, based on the initial Withdean format, with no fans behind the goals and a capacity of 14,318. Phase two: The temporary stand is removed and replaced by a permanent stand with 1,200 square metres of high tech office space underneath and 6,888 seats, raising the overall capacity to 17,606. Phase three: A north stand with 2,384 seats. Phase four: A south stand with 2,384 seats, producing a final capacity of 22,374. Phase one to four will take seven years. So is it really only going to have this limited capacity at the outset?

The position has moved forward so the arena will be built in one go.

Maybe it means realistically that the attendances will be 14,318 out of the 22,374

Because as I have already told you, SJ doesn't actually own Smellworst Park, he has financed it through some city based company who have threatened to build on it if he doesn't buy it. That was in The London Paper about a month ago. You're like my other half, the attention span of a goldfish !

Sorry mate i tend not to listen much to fans of a no mark club who believe the Evening Sub Standard newspaper. Still you will be in the Champions League when you have your ritzy titzy new little ground so you won't be wasting your time posting on here then will you, you will be bantering with Real Madrid and Liverpool fans! ![]() |

Ohhhh So bitchy ! No I must admit I was quite surprised when I read it I admit. I think you'll agree that getting away from Selhurst might not be such a bad thing although granted it's not the worst stadium in the world. I still think the situation at the Sports Centre is ridiculous, what would we have done if we'd have had a facility like that rather than Withdean ?

Not at all mate its all in the name of banter. This whole Sports Centre business is irrelevant to be honest because Bromley Council have said they would only be willing to grant a 25,000 seater stadium anyway so there would be no point, it really is a non starter. Look all the best with Falmer your fans deserve it after all the heartache and protesting that you have done. Let's hope you can get yourselves up and fill it regularly. |

Well I am a bit skeptical to be honest although I think 15,000 is not unrealistic. A lot of people are more likely to go as they will no longer have to mess about buying a ticket before hand. However I reckon that a lot of our potential and previous fan base will have found something else to do on a Saturday afternoon. However, if we'd have gone for a 15,000 seater it would have shown a profound lack of ambition and I don't care what any Palace fan thinks, the more intelligent will accept that we have the potential to be bigger as we were briefly back in the eighties. The problem is realizing that potential of course. Three years is a long time yet and much can happen given that the financial restrictions of Withdean will still apply until then.
Oh, BTW, met Mr Goldberg recently, he came round here for a cup of tea for some reason, seemed like a nice enough bloke and I might yet wander up to Hayes Lane. |

That's if you are a season ticket holder. I think the plan is that you can buy tickets at railway stations and other outlets but not actually at the gate on the day (similar to now) especially as the travel voucher is still going to be included to encourage public transport usage.
