Wasn't he the same person who hit a ref at Selhurst in the early 1980's?

End of season game at Hull in the mid-late 1980's was a good one. Drinking all day, on leaving the ground there was loads of trouble but managed to get to the station in one piece. While waiting for the train which was taking a while one pissed up Palace fan said he was a train driver and he was going to nick the train waiting in the sidings and drive us home . Managed to get the normal train and loads of Palace got off at Peterboro for some reason and went straight into a hotel opposite the staion and proceeded to wreck it! Then spent a good few hours in the town centre where loads of beers were drunk with the odd scuffle with the Man.Utd supporting locals

Memories of paddy who we were sitting next to on the coach with blood everywhere after being hit in the face.

Remember when the heating broke down on the coach on the way to Middlesborough... widdle of minter.? A 1-1 draw I think.

Sunderland away, coppers were very rude..... RAF dog display team for some reason at half time, another draw I think.... Portsmouth away, always good fun.

Reading, pouring with rain.... some weeder getting ready to glass me in Brighton cos I didn't want to give them my scarf... Bring back the old days. Open terraces and rain, proper grounds, Steve Coppell and good old fashioned hope and feling the club was moving forward.
Remember the RAF dog display at roker park, 87ish or bit later?

How strange I've just remembered that. He appeared on an Ian St_John chat show the week after when they were debating soccer hooliganism. Ian St-John asked him why he ran onto the pitch and chinned the ref to which he answered something only the lines of "Because I wanted to voice my opinion"

Had his picture up in all the turnstiles for a couple of seasons.

I'm pretty sure he didn't touch the ref, just ran up to him, can anyone else confirm?

This is way before my time.

What happenend? Why did the fella hit the ref?

My old man tells me another story 'way back when' when we had Everton at home and the ref sent the Palace fans crazy with blatantly biased opinion - said most of the crowd wanted to have a pop at him that day

Wolves at home 0-0, 9th May, 1985. att 5,413

The ref was having a nightmare and the Palace fans became more and more incensed. Don was in the Arthur and had actually told people around him that he would be on the pitch if the ref made one more bad decision.

Cue bad decision.........and on went Don, I seem to remember that the ref was at the other side of the pitch so Ron had some running to do to get to the ref. Once he got to the ref he only had a few seconds to protest the decisions and wave his arms around before the stewards and old bill got him. I am pretty sure he did not hit the ref.

The next day he was all over the papers and as stated earlier in the thread he made a GMTV appearance.

Uncle Ron banned him for life.

People would wind Don up at every game to run onto the pitch. On that occasion he did! Not sure if he got a life ban but he's picture was all over the ground for a season or so?

Hi Trev,

I was standing next to him. We had been beering it up in the George as it was the 80s the 80s. He said next decision against Palace and I am on. Tried to presuade hom not as it will interupt the beer session after the game but he was right up for it!!!!

Think Jim Cannon stopped him from lumping the ref!!

The womans face in the shop was a site to see as a Fozzy bear, a witch and other fancy dress characters I cannot remember ran into the shop after him !
Hi witch, fozzy bear here. Blackburn good (3rd place in fancy dress and I remember the baby but who came 1st) surely Bournemouth 3-2 is legend. Beers on train, couple of luverlies (one like Kiki Dee) , 2-0 down, 3-2 up, more beers, jump off train, two luverlies again, more beers, gatecrash wedding reception, post train back, bus needed for part way, get to East Croydon 7.30am, pick up kit, beat Apollo Sports 5-0, more beers, Sunday lunch, marvellous. Happy days.

Although anything involving Les is up there.
