Favourite Palace V Chalton game

The recent defeat and all the Charlton related topics at the moment (yes we hate them vs no we don't!) got me thinking about previous battles with the gypos from Greenwich.

We've had a few good games over the years but my personal favourite was the playoff semi final home leg when Houghton scored. The first leg was eventful and that fella we got on loan from wham (super Kenny!) scored late on to make it 2-1 I think. Haven't checked this out so apologies if my memory is playing tricks on me.

The home leg was even better. A night game in front of an up-for-it Selhurst crowd and a class strike from Houghton. I remember they only bought around 1,500 but uit was a wicked atmosphere and Selhurst erupted when we scored. It was just one of those games that you really enojy, by the time we had scored and made it 3-1 there was a bit of a comfort zone as we never really looked like losing.

Any other nominations for favourite Charlton game?

My favourite was when I entered the Palace in the past competition and won two seats in the directors box and lunch in the vice president clubs back in the mid seventies. I met Big Mal, Palace won and it was on The Big Match the next day.

It was a top day out. 74/75 season, Palace won 2-1 with Cannon and Chatterton scoring. Crowd of just under 25,000. I still remmeber the question i answered to win it. When did palace score 4 goals away in an FA Cup tied and still lose. It was in the 20's away to Man City when Palace lost 11-4! I had read about it in a programme somewhere and the score stuck in my head.

1-1 at their place in the late seventies, pretty sure it was midweek.

Mainly for the post-match activities...

Or perhaps the first 'away' match at Selhurst in 1989, we won 2-1 and we couldn't simply understand why the Charlton fans were so pissed off afterwards...

Remember one time at The Valley early 80's, I stood with my ol' man halfway along the great terrace they had (recall it being uneven and crumbling back then) - obviously for home fans but there was plenty of Palace in there also. All manner of scuffling and shenanigans going on.

Most vivid recollection from that game was the Palace fans behind the goal fully embracing the "one man went to mow" song in a way I hadn't heard before or since ... thankfully because I never liked THAT song. Bloody Chelsea

Don't think there was even that big a crowd that day. Sign of the times I 'spose, both clubs on the wane

probably not my favourite as we lost but can remember a match (very vaguely) when all the goals were penalties at the Valley and we lost 3-1 or 4-1 ?

10-man reserve team, League Cup 2004. Strange choice against play-offs, but a great night.

The 1-0 playoff win with Houghton scoring a classic from the outside of his boot, outside the area.

I remember the Player of the year party and 'Harry' Bassett got up and done a little speech. "Don't worry we'll beat those b@stards!" How right he was.

Winning a playoff semi final 1st leg away is always a good thing so I'll plump for that.

Houghton 1-0 is obviously the best of recent times.

However it was around 84-85 i think, we played Charlton at the Valley and it was my first away game.

I remember Andy Gray hitting the ball soooooooo hard that hit the crossbar, and i have never seen the old wooden goal post shake so hard afterwards. I have never seen a strike like it since
