Thought I'd kick it all off with the news that MVFC have just signed Michael Thwaite on a loan deal from Norway's Brann. So that is three pretty nice signings of late for MVFC. Ney Fabiano, Pupy Lopez and now Thwaite.

Roll on season 4 ...

Looks like it will be the last year of just 8 teams though. Could be up to four more teams in 2009-10 season. Several strong bids in for a second team in West Sydney and one in Geelong as well as the already mooted Gold Coast and Townsville ones.

Happy for a licence to go the Gold Coast, but hard to think of too many regional areas where a new club could stack up. Not convinced about Townsville at all, nor particularly Wollongong. A second team in Melbourne, which it would seem is inevitable by most reports, is a risky move. The one-team-one-city model has been a winner after the previous failed models of the previous 25-30 years.

At all costs, we need to avoid dilution of playing standards and crowds. Another World Cup appearance in 2010 would certainly buoy interest but there's many a potential slip along the way, and AFL/NRL are hardly going to concede territory.

AFL won't, but RL's gone already Phil.

Agree with what you say about the number of teams. Talk of a team in Geelong automtically reminds me of the Morwell Falcons days, which I'd hoped we'd never see again.

Yeah, comes from Saprissa, holding midfielder, Costa Rican International, so will be able to play in behind Carlos. Check out the MV forums for details, about 30 pages of crap about him. Looks good though.
