Dave Jones think's Cardiff have finally made it...

Hilarious article from the Burnley-mad website -

Quote:
Jones is one of a small group of managers that never appear to have watched the same game as anyone else. In 2006 he came up with some incredible comments after our game at Ninian Park and then, following our last home game of the 2007/08 season, outrageously condemned Cole after a horror challenge from Purse.

You would think he would learn, but oh no he hasn't, and his words yesterday in the Welsh press have come back to haunt him within 24 hours.

One player he was hoping to sign for Cardiff was Remco van der Schaaf, he'd even shown him round their training facilities and shown him the new stadium, and I bet he thought he'd got his man.

Yesterday, speaking to Wales on Sunday, Jones said: "Go back 12 months and compare Cardiff City to a club like Burnley. Given a choice between the two, any potential signing would have gone to Burnley and I couldn't have blamed him.

"But these days I have the tools to show a player around the training ground and I can actually show him the new stadium. I can say, 'There you go' and tell him there is lot more to come. Today, the player is more likely to choose Cardiff."

Today Dave Jones, Remco van der Schaaf signed a three year deal with Burnley.

Sorry why is that hilarious? Jones is a good manager who talks a lot of sense, he wasn't criticising Burnley, simply saying he thought that 12 months ago Cardiff were behind Burnley but that they had advanced.

A player no-one has ever heard of, chose Burnley over Cardiff, for whatever reason - that doesn't make Jones's comments wrong.

No someone quoted a specific player he is chasing and saying that players would now choose Cardiff over Burnley and then the player he is confident of signing then goes to Burnley is funny.

I didn't say Jones was a bad manager, I like him despite the fact that, in terms of league achievements, he's actually done very little with all the club's he's managed.

And when it comes to Burnley, he seems to have a penchant for putting his foot in it - he condemned Andy Cole for diving - even when presented with the video replay - despite the fact that the video evidence proved that Purse had made a revolting tackle.

And then this week, he's lauding how - due to the way that Cardiff are improving off the field - he can now convince players who previously would not have signed for Cardiff to sign for him due to the improving setup.

He did so after being convinced that Remco Van Der Shaf would sign for Cardiff, indicating Burnley as the kind of club they could now beat to signatures.

Van Der Shaf then signs for Burnley. Which completely blows his comments out of the water. That is why it's hilarious.

But he doesn't say they "will choose" he says they are "more likely to". Which I would think, is correct at the moment. The implication is that he was slagging of Burnley and it backfired, but he wasn't.
