Paul Jewell seems to have no respect from his players, and I'm not sure the Derby fans feel too happy with him either.

His relegation with Derby was embarrassing, especially considering the money he spent and the complete ineptitude of his team's performances.

And now one Tyrone Mears has just walked out and gone for a trial with Marseille, despite the club refusing to let him go there on loan and despite him being told he wouldn't go there at all.

Jewell's words seem a bit badly chosen, speaking of death warrants, but things just don't seem to be right there.

I thought his comments about Mears were completely OTT and not helpful to the Derby cause in any way. Can't see him lasting much longer.

He at least gave the impression of being a top class manager at Wigan.

But Graeme Souness, Lawrie Sanchez, Peter Taylor, Chris Hutchings and Les Reed can all point and piss themselves at his performance at Derby. That bad. It's so bad it's comedic. He seems to say all the wrong things to the press whenever they stick cameras in his face, he seems to make endless - fairly big money signings - that don't work at all, he seems completely unable to inspire or motivate his players and gives every impression of being completely useless.

I know he took on a club who were already struggling - but what always gets brushed over is that when he took over, they weren't out of touch with the teams above them and IIRC weren't even bottom of the league. It's since he took over that they've plunged into being a total laughing stock.

He'll be out sooner or later.

I laughed at how many times he blamed everyone but himself last season, even though he'd been in the job a good 3 or 4 months.

Now its his own team and they're doing just as bad if thats possible!

Sadly the modern manager has to put up with surly, ignorant gob shites as well as being a football tactician. Player power is really taking over and decent up and coming managers can be ruined on the basis of a select few in the dressing room getting together and showing no respect. Mears is in the wrong here at a time when everyone should be taking collective responsibility for Derby's failings. Not that Jewell has handled this much better.

Martin O'Neill had troubles at Norwich but is still a decent manager, Gary Megson in my opinion is another decent(ish) manager who has struggled with player power, Martin Jol lost his job at Spurs because of it and now add Jewell to that list.
