Blu ray for the Xbox 360!
Anyone know if Microsoft will release a firmware upgrade so we can all enjoy this experience? OR does anyone know if it's already possible to change the current CD drive in the 360 to accomodate this?!

I can't see M$ wanting to pay Sony for it and I can't imagine Sony wanting to let it go cheap to the opposition.

TBH I'm not that fussed - would imagine that M$ will duck fighting on physical drives and push their download options.

You can download HD films from the Xbox Live market place in exchange for MS Points. Reasonably priced too

Report: Microsoft says no Blu-ray for Xbox 360

Microsoft has denied that it plans to integrate Blu-ray high-definition DVD drives into its Xbox 360 game console.

(Rumors have circulated recently that Microsoft was considering a Blu-ray replacement for the Xbox's now-discontinued external HD DVD drive.

Last week, the Financial Times, citing an unnamed senior executive, reported that Sony and Microsoft were in talks to integrate Blu-ray into the game system.

Not so, says a Microsoft executive. "Xbox is not currently in talks with Sony or the Blu-ray Association to integrate Blu-ray into the Xbox experience," Aaron Greenberg, group product manager for Xbox 360, told Reuters on Wednesday.

Elsewhere, reports indicate that Toshiba will likely take a nearly $1 billion loss this year, stemming from its decision to abandon the HD DVD format.

The HD drives (the x-box addition got bad reviews) were superior to blu ray at the beginning of 2008. Whereas Blu ray standalone players and the PS3 are just now becoming Profile 2.0 from ealier 1.0 and 1.1 releases HD DVD was released in a final format with no firmware upgrades needed to play all the features.

The Toshiba HD DVD's are still in use today by many early adopters (not least because there are many HD DVD titles going for silly prices) as they make incredibly good DVD upscalers, putting many current blu ray players to shame in this department.

HMV are still doing shed loads of HD DVD's for £2.99 delivered. More titles added yesterday.

Though downloads are the way forward.

I have a total of 2 blu ray discs, I may well purchase one more in 09.

Downloading is certainly the way forward but high definition downloads are huge and while internet speeds and disk sizes are getting faster/bigger there's still an awful long way to go to catch up for it to be accessible to the mainstream.

Just got a HD DVD player for £40 delivered. Even though it is defunct I think thats a bargain. Am going to buy a load 0f 2.99 DVD's from HMV.
