Strange.

Palace weren't known as the Eagles in the 1940's.

Haha! It's in "very good condition" due to the fact the seller made it last week.

That's so fake it's hilarious. I can remember the rosettes that were sold before the change of colours from Claret & Light Blue to Red & Blue in 1973.

They were claret and blue ribbons, no badge, but a small foil image of the FA Cup.

Just like the totally crap half and half scarves of today, the money grabbing tossers that produced them couldn't be bothered to use the full name of our club, or even just 'Palace', so you used to get C.Palace or even Crystal P.

You would see the occasional alternative souvenir scarves or metal badges, but even they were never as crap as that rosette - looks like a Millwall player in the middle of a rosette with Northampton's colours on the ribbons!

On the subject of clubs with an Eagle in their badge, have a look at this old map of English and Welsh clubs and their badges published by Bartholomew in 1971.

Difficult to properly make out, but if you zoom in, you may be able to make out a very lovely looking Eagle between the badges of Huddersfield and Hull City.

It belonged to a non-league outfit called Hull Brunswick, who only lasted for eleven years between 1961 and 1972 in the Yorkshire Leagues.

The Palace badge featured was never used on Palace team shirts, but older fans may remember that there was a large emblem just like it in a mosaic on the tiled floor of the Reception to the Main Stand (or Old Stand as we always called it!) in the 60's and 70's - also favoured by Bert Head and the players and staff on official club jackets and ties.

The reception mosaic went in about 1990/1991 when Noades added the ground floor under the boardoom on stilts

It was rather lovely!

The badge I meant to describe was this one -

Although the print of it in the Bartholomew map was coloured red and blue and had the Palace and CP logo in yellow (rather contemporary really!) and the detail was much better than this version.

incredibly rare. I know somebody who has one, or possibly even has "it" as there can't be many of them that have survived.

Does anyone have a photo of this badge on the floor?

Lovely photo Ockleywood. Absolutely superb work! Haven't seen the mosaic in it's entirety like that for about 25 years (since it was built over!).

The blazer badge crest with the yellow/gold "CP" being referred to is this one

and Bert Head (amongst others) had it on his jacket pocket.

That crest was never on the entrance floor though - Ockleywood's is the one which was the mosaic floor in the main entrance.

I was doing some research into this badge and the earliest photo I could find of it was in the 1966 photocall on Bert Head's blazer. Was the badge used before his arrival? And was it abolished in 1972 due to the rebrand (circle Glaziers badge)?

The blazer badge crest with the yellow/gold "CP" being referred to is this one

and Bert Head (amongst others) had it on his jacket pocket.

That crest was never on the entrance floor though - Ockleywood's is the one which was the mosaic floor in the main entrance.
