Car Park at Selhurst Park

What's the situation with using the car park on matchdays ? My father has got too frail to be able to walk from where we usually park in the street so I need to find a better arrangement.

How much does it cost to park in the Sainsbury's car park on matchdays, if it's allowed at all ? And if they're available, how much does a pass cost for the season ?

Any helpful information on the subject would be much appreciated. (I know the obvious answer is to ring the club but, in my recent experience, that's a frustrating and usually unhelpful avenue to go down)

Nelson Muntz started a thread a few months ago about the restrictions on parking in there. There could well be some helpful advice in that thread.

Not sure if it's an option for you, but when my slightly frail 80 year old dad comes with me I ask my wife to drop us at the petrol station opposite the club shop, and she picks us up from there at 5.00pm.

Thanks for your suggestions.

Generally speaking though, how does the Sainsburys car park work on matchdays ? (Nelson's thread is 50% p1ss-poor puns and the rest is a wee bit vague)

If you turn up at 2:30 and there are still places, can you park in there or is it restricted for shoppers only ? What sort of time do you need to get there to be sure of a place and how much does it cost (if anything)?

And what about the part of the car-park that actually belongs to the club (assuming that some of it still does)

My Mum and Dad use the club car park - same reasons, getting a bit to much to walk from the station. It costs about £350 a season. You would have to ask in the box office to see if they have a spare space.

If your Father is frail & struggles on a long walk then get your Doctor to support him in applying for a Blue Badge, then you can park free on yellow & double yellows around the ground.

The Sainsbury's Car Park is Free and as far as I am aware the 3 hour rule only applies when the store is open. To get a space you need to be there probably before 1.30 (when the store closes) and the last shoppers go which frees up the last few parking spaces. Am I correct?

I've got a dodgy ankle at present so I used the car park on Tuesday evening. I showed up at 6.25 and parked up. There were plenty of spaces still available. Minutes later the entrance had been blocked and there were a couple of stewards on duty there. Not sure whether they would have stopped me getting in if I'd turned up after 6.30 (i.e. the shop's closing time). I'd suggest aiming to get there before 1.30 on Saturday, because you might well not be allowed in after that.

I have no idea why Sainsbury's don't just charge people to park there during the game and make a few quid out of it.

Many thanks. So in summary, if there's spaces available, it's free but you're unlikely to get a place unless you're there before 1:30 PM.

Obviously it's impossible to answer exactly, but assuming our attendances will be hovering around the 14K mark for the rest of the season, do you think it would it be possible to get a place if I turned up at 2:00PM or is that pushing it ?

I'm not saying that there weren't still spaces available, just that the stewards blocked the entrance to the car park at the supermarket's closing time. I don't know whether they let people in after that, but they had put cones across the road. I had got in there with a couple of minutes to spare, so I didn't need to blag my way in afterwards. Unless you can find out what their instructions were before Saturday, I'd suggest you play it safe and get there before the supermarket closes.

I always aim to be there 1.5 hours before KO. Only once have I not been able to park there although, several Palace fans park up long before I do.

I have a Blue parking badge but, those without seem to get away with parking in the disabled bays, especially people shopping in Sainsbury's.

It's a long time since I used it regularly, however...

They used close the car park off when it seemed to be getting full near store closing time, then re-open it briefly when most of the shoppers had cleared. So you'd have trouble from 1.15pm to 1.45pm, but could usually get a space vacated by a shopper if you rolled up in a window between 1.45pm and 2pm.

Thats not the case Howard. If I ever see a car parked in a bay without a blue badge I grass them (the only time grassing is justified) and if I can't find a person to grass them to I take a picture and it gets put on my Sainsburys Car Park thread.
The last car I saw in the bays without a blue badge got a ticket.

i usually arrive about 20 mins prior to kick off and always find a space in the car park. whilst the main entrance by the club shop is cordoned off up to 2 hours prior to kick off, there is a sneaky and little known entrance from clifton road. sometimes the gates are locked however (about 15% of the time, i'd say).

thought twice about posting this info, but karma and everything...
