buying/selling/swapping
is it possible for a section on the BBS to be made available for buying/selling/swapping? i guess a fair few on here have services, goods etc for sale/hire, or even just items to swap or trade, or just get rid of.
There's always people posting on here asking for help and advice, or have something they'd prefer to go to a good home etc, so maybe a section on here might be quite useful.

a few other sites i'm a member of have such a section, and it seems to work pretty well

Any thoughts?

Yep,we go as far as Palace tickets at face value and maybe a discreet ad for a biz.

Saves trouble we don't need if anything goes wrong,bad enough with Maz & Al,can you imagine if Al sells Maz his used blow up doll and it goes down on him ....I guess you get my point.

Could this not be run through the BBS so that people don't get ripped off? The BBS obviously has an acount where running costs come from, so could people not pay into this, then when the product arrives the money could be given from the BBS acount to the sender. Then people wouldn't get ripped off on here.

a good idea in theory peagle, but that means someone from the BBS is going to have to give up their time to do so

There are two reasons we don't allowing buying and selling on the BBS.

First, no matter what we did, it would inevitably expose the BBS to risk of people holding the BBS responsible for fraudulent or unsuccessful transactions. The BBS is very thinly spread with moderators and we don't have the moderators to cover trust and safety issues.

Second, it would lead to people registering just to sell, that's not where we want to go.

What about, for example.

You were selling a job lot of programmes on eBay. Would that be allowed in your signature rather than having people joining to sell?

Or if you have a signed shirt from the 1990 season and it was on eBay, and you said 10% to Charity, can that be advertised.

As long as it isn't one rule for one, one for another its fine.

Not a good idea for me, look at the craziness that ensued when that bloke welched on that bet, there would be threads started as soon as any transaction went tits up and it would start to impact on other threads

Also agree that its not the mods job to mediate in any disputes which would inevitably happen.

I think it's a bad idea too. What Dave said pretty much covers it. There are load of other sites for buying and selling stuff, and I don't think this place needs to be one of them.

However, there may be a place for a sort of "register of interests" where members could give a brief summary of the services they have to offer and other members could then check this out and get in touch should they wish. It would have to be on the explicit understanding that any deals done or contracts entered into we between the two parties involved and nothing to do with the BBS.

Only people who have made a certain amount of posts (say 500 for arguements sake) could buy/sell. This would stop people registering just to do so. I do however understand the other problems associated.

Wouldn't an easier way be for every person to state

1. their occupation
2. whether they are willing to give free advice
3. whether they are willing to barter services
