Best software to convert avi to dvd
I started a thread on this years ago and everyone said get an divx DVD player. I have two of these now, my latest which will play a avi straight off a usb stick.
HOWEVER, I still would like to be able to burn a film in standard dvd format and have the ability to create chapters and snazzy menu screens etc. Ideally I don't want to have to pay for this software, but if I do, I don't want to pay more than £15. Any tips?

I use Xilisoft AVI to DVD Converter. Its quality. Even lets you create menus and even writes it to the disk for you.

I did one last night using DVD Flick. It took nearly 2 hours. And the DVD keeps freezong. Could be the quality of the disc though, I guess.

I dont understand why anyone would want to copy avi to dvd, it's a bit like copying dvd to Vhs. Why do you want to do it I'm genuinely curious. Most modern dvd players have a USB input now, you can play the Avi file direct from that....and god knows how cheap it is to get a USB key. Then there is this...... If your doing it for yourself Kev buy something like this or the WD HD TV. http://www.avedia.com.au/products/mp...ia-player.html The time and angst you will save yourself are more worthwhile than bothering with backward technology conversions. Whoops should have read your opening comment properly... Still you can do the snazzy menus with avi just as easily. Your not flogging erm down at car boot sales are yah ![]()

I wanted to burn a couple of DVDs for my Dad who just has a standard DVD player. I would also like to add chapters to an avi too for my own purposes. I didn't realise this was possible?

It's a pointless excercise unless you asolutely have to, winavi is the best tool and very fast. However, the time and arseing about, you are better off dropping 20 notes on a divx capable player for your old man or 9 times out of 10 you should be able to get the DVD .ISO rather than an AVI. Have you got a fast connection?

You are probably better off trying to master the following, than stuffing around backwards converting DVD's.... or like PAF suggests buy your father a Divx player. I actually thought it was easier than the following method. http://www.alexander-noe.com/video/a...er_config.html Hmmm there probably is a better way... 2005 the page originated. I will check it out further.

Get a DVD recorder.
Play avi's into your DVD recorder and press record. That is quite honestly the "least rubbish" way of doing it. Any other method will take hours and produce dreadful quality DVDs.

takes ages, winavi takes about 15 mins, less on a fast machine.

What about adding chapters to an avi? It would be nice to be able to skip around a film, particularly one handed motion pictures.
