Which Palace Hero?
Three Palace heroes are now doing well managing teams at the top of Division Two. Presuming we don't go up, which one would you most like to welcome back next year?
1. Peter Taylor - downside he'd bring the Seaweed 2. Alan Pardew - downside Reading are like a cross between Millwall and Gillingham. 3. Steve Coppell - downside he'd bring Ron Noades |

Wouldn't care if we go up but it would be Brighton and Brentford and there is no downside to seeing Noades and seaweed back at Selhurst.

Is this even a question? Without a doubt, I'd expect all the red'n'blue to be hoping Brentford come up next year with Steve Coppell. I'd also quite like to see Pardew do well at Reading. But Taylor?! He may have been a Palace legend, but he threw all of that away when he chose to manage those morons down on the south coast. He can still regain his status - but he must take Brighton back down to the Third before he will be forgiven.

We have to play Brighton next year though. It's been too long. Although they are our rivals, I don't want them to be a couple of divisions away and never play them. It's much better to be playing them each year and doing the double. |

I'd like to see Brighton up next season. Revive the rivalry that some of us haven't experienced.
Plus I wouldn't be too hard on Peter Taylor. I have it on good authority (my friends are friends with Taylor from his days at Dartford) that he regretted his decision to move to Brighton. I think his exact words were that it 'was a pity he didn't hold off for a few weeks'. As i remember, we got rid of Bruce a few weeks after Taylor moved, and I get the impresssion that he would have wanted to come to Palace instead (who wouldn't?). |

I'm sure he would rather have come to Palace - he knows that even if he takes Brighton upto the First, they simply would be unable to go any further due to the appalling ground & facilities. Zamora will leave, and he'll have his work cut out to keep them in Second Division.
But he bought his tickets, he knew what he was getting himself into, I say, let 'em crash.

I'd like all 3 to come up - has there ever been a division with more poxy northern teams in it than Division 1 over the last few seasons?

Yes, I would welcome all three of them back. But I can only imagine the massive support that Steve Coppell would get on his return to Selhurst Park. And it would be a good excuse to get that banner out again...!

Good point R.O.B. Brighton may be second, but Bristol City and Stoke are catching them up, and the best they may get is a play-off place. As for Palace, well as we know, anything is possible ![]() |
