Exactly what I thought of. They should have named it after their renowned atmosphere, like 'Lunar Park' or something.

Oh Gawd. Are we going to have this every time a club gets a new owner or sponsor? Home ground's names used to last for years and became embedded in history, now the the media and advertising mob have even got their grubby fingers into that.
I can't see the new owner-to-be of Reading leaving the stadium as The Madjeski (sp?) can you?

Very sad. As an outsider one of the things that added to the allure of things football in UK was the evocative names of the stadia. In Melbourne we have a substantial stadium less than 10 years old that is already onto its third name - Colonial Stadium (financial services), Telstra Dome (telecommunications) and now Etihad Stadium (airline).
"DW" must have been years in the planning and no doubt chosen from thousands of possibilities. ![]()

Phil, you could have just joined me and the ABC and avoided this problem by calling it by its real name for the entire period - Docklands Stadium. |

Dave Whelan - sold JJB sports - hence no more JJB Stadium - he has however bought back his fitness gyms, DW gyms - hence DW Stadium.
Oh and this is the man that said the chairman of Newcastle (a more successful sports shop owner than Dave Whelan) has ripped the 'class' out of newcastle becuase he wore a replica top!!!!!!!! A petty, vindicative man.

In the last ten years Bradford City's ground has been called Intersonic Stadium, Pulse Stadium, Bradford and Bingley Stadium, and is currently Coral Windows Stadium - since changing it from Valley Parade.

Whelan is still smarting from when Mike Ashley grassed his company into the Trading Standards for price fixing England shirts. He's been laying into him ever since. Not a fan of either to be honest. |
