Popped in to The Alma in Crystal Palace on Saturday night. They had a young female DJ on playing a selection of ska, rocksteady and early reggae. Now I'm first to admit that what I know about ska and rocksteady could fit on to the back of a stamp, but I thought it was a class set.
This got an outing: |

Unfortunately I didn't hear this, but this is a classic - especially for SurreyRanger on the DA threads in Transfer forum:

Love the ska. Funny just seeing this thread as the last 2 weekends i've been playing early jazz, ska & old skool reggae. Is the ska on a saturday @ The Alma a regular thing then ? Would be well up for it if so.

Not sure, we popped in on the off chance they would have something on. Not sure how regular any do is in The Alma. Crystal Palace Soul which covers Northern, Rare Groove and Funk seems to have established itself now But I will miss the next one on the 21st as I'll be away But the 21st is the first one for 5 months or so... |

Was there at the Barbican last weekend - fantastic. The crowd really got into the nostalgia of it all, so hope that comes across on the telly.

To this day Sugar still brings a smile to my face. My late Mum loved it and so do I. Always remember my ol' man could never get over the bowler LOL!

H & R Cloakes in Croydon (opposite the old Grants by St Georges Walk) had the best Reggae and SKA section. I loved that shop and spent a lot (a lot!!!) of my early working wages there. Remember Kev (lovely guy, Palace fan that passed away RIP) used to work behind the counter. Great days

99p in the Woolies sales rack Reissued a few years back on CD with Whine & Grine on and renamed, rather unimaginatively, 'Whine & Grine - Club Ska 67'. Might be one for the journey over to south Essex this morning ![]() |
