Warnock not ruling out Davis move

NEIL Warnock has no immediate plans to sign Claude Davis and admits resolving the defender’s future is not one of his main priorities.

The Crystal Palace manager says he was surprised to read weekend reports suggesting a deal had been agreed for the Derby centre-back.

“We haven’t had any discussions with Derby about Claude,” said Warnock.

“I’ve spoken to the player and his agent and they are aware of our position, but that is the extent of it.”

Warnock has held talks with several transfer targets in the weeks since the Championship season ended, and with James Scowcroft leaving the club and the futures of Shefki Kuqi and Alan Lee unclear, bolstering his striking options is his number one prioirty.

“I’m not too concerened about sorting out Claude’s future at the moment because my main focus is on getting forwards in,” said Warnock.

“I have set a target of signing three players - or at least having deals agreed for them - before the start of pre-season training on July 1, and I would love them all to be strikers.”

I'd say defnintely worth it on a free, if his wages are ok...having said that he'll be back up for paddy/jose so should not be on much pay for warming the bench! But gotta be better options than lawrence and Hill as we need Hill at left back and lawrence...well

Very impressed with him but as NW says a striker is what we really need.

Would rather we went after Kisnorbo if he can stay fit.

Not ruling Davis out perhaps - but putting it very much in perspective that we will do nothing until we have the strikers sorted. By that time do you seriously think there will be anything in the kitty?

Crystal Palace manager Neil Warnock has not ruled out a move for defender Claude Davis, but insisted signing strikers is his priority.

Derby County are understood to be willing to let Davis, who spent the last three months of the season on loan at Palace, leave Pride Park on a free despite having two years left on his contract.

The Jamaican international played seven games for the Eagles in an injury-plagued spell at the club before being suspended for the last three matches after an incident with Cardiff City's Roger Johnson.

With Paddy McCarthy, Jose Fonte, Matt Lawrence and Clint Hill all capable of playing in central defence though, Warnock knows he must add to his wafer-thin strikeforce before bolstering the defence.

"We won't be doing anything with Davis until we have got some strikers singed on," he said.

Hate to say this but i think N.W. prefers Davis to Fonte if he signs for us i do not think it will be him warming the bench .
What is wrong with our defence? save the money and use Ertl to cover the centre backs.

I'd assume his wage demands would be high, I think they could be better spent in other areas

i dont understand how people can think davies is worse than lawrence. davies is actually pretty good, one thing i notice a lot about him is that he actually can do a decent long ball as well. lawrence in my opinion is not even a league 2 defender
