On Wednesday amateur VfB Lübeck (5th in Regionalliga Nord) clash with VfB Stuttgart in FA Cup 2. Rd.
Full house: 16500 and I think they aren't better than Mainz 05

Interesting that Mainz have only lost twice this season!

I didn't realise there was quite so much interest in the German League, might have to start giving it a look. Never thought beyond England, Spain and Italy to be honest.

I used to be into Spanish and Italian football big time about 3-4 years ago, but it's the usual nonsense, controversy etc. German football has a real passion about it from the players and fans.

And as has been shown last season, you do get the occasional random Champion. Oh and all the teams seem to look really smart, probably because most of the kit makers (Adidas, Puma etc) are German.

Got to be honest Bob, Dortmund look in big trouble. However I think there are three worse teams than them so you should just about be safe. Trouble is two of the promoted clubs are looking good at the moment. I think Bochum will be down there this year, Nurnberg are struggling, and well at the moment Hertha are like a sitting duck. I'd expect Mainz and Freiburg to tail off but I think they've shown already they can mix it with the big boys.

I went to two Bundesliga games last easter, fantastic time. At the Monchengladbach game we stood on the terraces, with our beer in hand, great atmosphere. I'll be going again this season, will try to get a St pauli game, and tryo to get back to Monchengladbach, because it was such an enjoyable stadium. There's cheap flights to Dusseldorf so it's not that expensive.

Against FSV I see. Should be a home win then. Love Union as an experience. Been a few times, my favourite being when it was minus 4 - the guy frying Bratwurst on a grill strapped to his front, whilst dishing out Gluhwein from a barrel on his back was very popular!

It was great. Standing, drinking, no smoking ban and constant singing from the fans. The win was never in the bag as FSV piled on the pressure for the last 20 minutes and deserved a draw, but was happy for Union, especially as I was in their block. Wish I had gone more often, as it was miles better than watching Hertha play.
