Palace close to double deal
CRYSTAL Palace are closing in on a double capture - Southampton striker Stern John and Derby defender Claude Davis.

The South London Press understands that Trindad & Tobago international John, 32, has been offered a deal by the Eagles.

The former Nottingham Forest and Birmingham forward is still wanted by Southampton, who he has been training with over the summer, but he is keen to work with Palace boss Neil Warnock.

And John is set to be joined in SE25 by Claude Davis, who spent time on loan with the Eagles last season.

Derby have told the big Jamaican defender he has no future at Pride Park and are looking to terminate the final two years of his contract.

I think people need to start realising that we won't be signing Leroy Lita as his wage demands are way out of our pay structure. Stern John and Claude Davis will probably only cost us around £5-6,000 a week for both players, which is around £20-25,000 a month whereas Lita would be wanting those sort of wages every week!

Stern John will be a shrewd signing on a 1 year contract and is a player more than capabale of scoring goals in the Championship so for me am happy with this signing.

Claude Davis is also again decent enough in the Championship and done his job well when he was here and will be decent back up to have.

I doubt the wages will be that high either so in theory Warnock has got 2 players with good experience which gives the squad more options and better cover than what we had last year.

Good signings if they are both on not too much money and one year contracts. I'd be happier to see those two in the lineup than Lee and Lawrence, and they add valuable cover for no transfer fees.

This was completely what was going through my mind when reading these comments.

To a certain extent, the jury's out on all new signings until they get the chance to perform. Stern John IMO has done nothing to deserve being hanged before he's even reached the scaffold.
