We Desperately Need A New Midfielder!

I have said my piece on AA so will try not to sound too bitter here, but I really hope we still have some money left for a midfielder. The reason being - we don't need cover for our midfield, we actually desperately need a first team midfielder! With Hopkin's disgraceful display against Wolves , and Rodger clearly being past his (never sensational) best, coupled with Mullins often being used in defense, and Aki being desperately low on confidence, we badly, badly need a new midfielder.

I was really hoping this is what our new signing would be, rather than an over-priced striker who would disrupt our superb front 2 (sorry - it just slipped out).

If only that money had been spent on a quality midfielder - how many of you can genuinely say you'd rather have seen Akinbiyi line up against Wolves, rather than our usual two, and say Koumas, or Brown in midfield in place of Hopkin or Rodger??????

None, that's how many.

TF got his priorities all wrong, and now we all have to suffer.

(And if someone comes on here posting that "do I think I know better than Trevor Francis" line, then I say to you "yes , on this matter I do actually")

Anyway, I really hope we sign a classy midfielder or we will not even make the play-offs this year.

And why is it when anyone has a go at TF for not strengthening our midfield they always bring out the same old names, ie Koumas ?

So I had a little fun with my profile. So what?

Do you honestly think that just because he is a professional manager, every decision he makes is right???

If so, you are a real fool.

And fans who have known the club for years, their opinions are presumably utterly worthless?

TF IS wrong about AA and he will be proved thus, and all us doubters will be proved correct. It gives me no joy to say this as it is very bad for the club. However, I reserve my right to be angry when I see the best part of our team (front two) who have been a joy to watch all season, disrupted in such a way.

Are you so brainless you are unable to form individual opinions, and simply blindly follow whoever is in charge?

You are like Boxer from Animal Farm.

Maybe it's because

a) Koumas is a quality young player
b) He is playing in a lower league so would be cheaper/more easily available than a Prem player
c) We have been linked with him in the past
d) We could have gotten him for £2.4 mil

Any further questions?

Top Dog, whilst I agree with most of your recent posts regarding AA, I'm afraid I don't think Koumas is the one for us. I've seen him live a few times over the last 2 or 3 years, not just against palace, but several other clubs as well, and for me he just doesn't dictate games to any great extent, which is what, I bellieve, we need at the moment. This is perhaps borne out by the fact he's still at tranny after 18 months of speculation. Surely someone would have grabbed him were he that good.

When the announcment was made last week about making a big signing the following day I nearly got on bended knee to pray it was Merson, what with all the shenanigans going on at villa the week before. So when AA was announced I nearly cried. In fact I'm still very upset and have, unfortunately, bitten several peoples heads off (metaphorically of course) when they dare to mention the wisdom of buying AA.

I know Merson would cost a bit in wages but I'm sure a short term (18 months) contract with large promotion bonuses could have been worked out.

Fair play. I just rememeber that Koumas was absolute class against us last season, and then read very good things about him in the paper. We certainly need someone though - yeah, Merse would have been great and really had a big, positive effect on the team, although I'm not sure he'd have dropped a division.

Also, can any team contain two wizards??? It could turn nasty with each trying to out-trick the other!

Agreed. I think you need to get over your fixationwith Koumas Top Dog. He is a second division midfielder.

Why not suggest some other names? I agree we need at least one top quality midfeilder (koumas does not fulfill this criteria IMHO), but we also needed a third striker, so why all the panic?

Any further questions?

a) so much so that he's been stuck in division 2 for over half a season.
b) why ? Zamora is in a lower league, doesn't mean he will be cheap.
c) so what ? do you seriously think we should buy everybody we've been linked with?
d) did Tranmere tell you that directly ? you must have great inside knowledge.

Yes,we need a playmaking midfielder, but be a bit more original with your suggestions. Koumas is not going to come here.

Fair criticism from all regarding Koumas - I was really just picking a name at random to demonstrate the type of player we need. Anyone have any other suggestions?

The panic Brighton Eagle is that we can still go up this season - and we really need a midfielder, far more than we needed a striker as cover.

So nothing - if I hadn't pointed out why I wrote 'marine biology' my post wouldn't have made sense to anyone who hadn't read your profile.

Nope - tell me where I said that.

And fans who have known the club for years, their opinions are presumably utterly worthless?

And while you're at it, tell me where I said that.

TF IS wrong about AA and he will be proved thus, and all us doubters will be proved correct.

An opinion, which is your right

It gives me no joy to say this as it is very bad for the club. However, I reserve my right to be angry when I see the best part of our team (front two) who have been a joy to watch all season, disrupted in such a way.

Again, it's your right to be emnotionally affected by what you see as a retrograde step. Unsurprisingly, no-one has any desire to see the Freedman-Morrison partnership broken up - they are the most prolific in the division. It would be nice not to have to resort to Stephen Kabba as and when either of them are unavailable however - I've seen lots of him and he doesn't seem ready for First Division football yet.

Are you so brainless you are unable to form individual opinions, and simply blindly follow whoever is in charge?

No. You'll notice I only quoted and responded to the section of your post where you claimed to know more about football (at least in this instance) than Trevor Francis. You don't, neither do I. We've all been young and arrogant - some of us still are, clearly - but don't expect not to get picked up on when you show it.

You are like Boxer from Animal Farm.

I appreciate that we may still have a shot at promotion. However, I think you're example of Koumas indicates that it's alot easier to talk about signing players than it is to sign the right one. Where is the indication that the club are not looking to bring in another midfielder, of the type you describe? As for needing one more than a striker, we needed both, pure and simple. We have the striker, so lets look forward to a new midfielder signing soon.

Hands up anyone who would have genuinely suggested Koumas if he hadn't been linked with us last season. Lets have some original ideas please. Not people pretending they know about football by re-hashing old *****. Thats what we did with Alan Smith, and look where that got us. Young unknown talent is cheaper.

No, you don't explicitly say in your post that the manager is always right, and fans wrong, but it is clearly the implication that you and others have been making recently. If anyone criticises the manager, this pathetic comment always resurfaces - " so you know more about football than TF do you?". It's simply irrelevant.

So we won't see the Freedman-Morrison partnership broken up then - so why was Dougie playing left-wing against Wolves then? Do you seriously believe he has been bought to warm the bench? You truly are naive.

And actually, I read Animal Farm when I was twelve, because I wanted to.

I still think my point is legitimate though - you advocate not criticising the manager because he "must know better" than us simple plebs?

Speak for yourself dude.

Ouch that really did hurt! Your stupidity is astounding.

Koumas is an old **** is he? That's funny, I thought he was in his early twenties.

That's what Alan Smith did? Funny I thought he bought Rubins, Gray and Black - weren't they young and unknown????

And talking of re-hashing old ****. I suppose you said that about Freedman, when you heard we were re-signing an old player.
