Portsmouth
What are they doing??
1) Peter Storrie was on before voicing his displeasure at the sale of the club to Sulamain Al Fahim, as Storrie's own consortium appeared to be close to a deal and could guarantee more funds to be spent on the squad. 2) Al Fahim responds by "flexing his muscles" and agreeing deals for Tommy Smith (Watford), Mike Williamson (Watford) and Michael Brown (Wigan). 3) They still have Paul Hart as manager. Are they purposefully trying to get relegated or what?

With he players they're bringing in it would seem they are planning to play in the championship.

I wouldn't shed a tear for them. Still haven't forgiven the way they rolled over and had their bellies tickled by West Brom in 2005!

Not sure why everyone is relishing Portsmouth's demise, it's not as if they are a Leeds Utd or Newcastle.
Small club that has exceeded expectations for years and have got badly burnt after over spending. But I would rather see the likes of Pompey, Wigan, Bolton, Hull etc hanging in the Prem at the expense of the so called big boys. |

Saw a Pompey fan on Sky the other day when asked about the new owner and he said something along the lines of "he refers to himself as Dr Fahim, but he's not actually a doctor. I can't really see how we can trust someone who calls themselves doctor for no reason".

as much as it is good when the smaller clubs get into the prem and stay there, the fans of pompey appear to be a bunch of inbred fools. The pompey chimes, mr portsmouth football club, the silly man dressed as a sailor, all a bunch of arse.
If the pompey go down, i will not cry. |

Clubs like Portsmouth shouldn't be spending what they clearly never had - they've been paying OTT wages for years for a club of their size and the chickens have come home to roost.
They look like they are staffing up for a Championship campaign to me and are nailed on to be relegated, IMHO.

Fred Done would be paying out already. That was an excellent price, all things considered.

Sadly for them, I can see them being the next Leeds, Norwich, Southampton etc and be in League One before you know it. Average players, average manager, financial uncertainty.
To think how quick things can change, they had a number of excellent players, Redknapp as manager and were winning the FA Cup five minutes ago! |

Yeah but the point is that it was all being done on tic - without a huge benefactor clubs shouldn't be spending the sort of money they have - nothing like.

So true. Mind you at least they spent all the money on tick and got something to show for it. I wonder if that will sustain them though the tough times ahead?
