Portal 2
Not sure if this deserves its own thread but Valve has been dropping all sorts of buried hints at a sequel, but the cat is well and truly out of the bag now. Gameinformer will devote 12 pages in their next issue to it. I utterly loved the first game (as short as it was) and have real been jonesin' for a sequel. Might have to buy a 360 if Valve keeps the PS3 on the backburner.

I really enjoyed it too.

Not sure I will get this one though, as I get terrible motion sickness from playing the Half Life 2 engine. No idea why, no other game makes me feel sick!

Damn, me too. I didn't have a problem with Portal, but Half Life really hurts my head.

I managed Portal as well in small bursts - although if I remember right, I never completed the final level.

Half Life 2 was too much though. Didn't get very far and can only manage 20-30 mins before needing to lie down! lol

Loved Portal, made the Orange Box worth the money alone.

There have been numerous reports on what they are doing after Valve release a job specification for a voice actor, but it will be good to hear confirmed details of the game then wait the usual 1-2 years for Valve to actually release it (L4D2 excluded of course).

Seems like I'm not the only one to suffer with HL2. Searching on google returns a lot of results.

A lot of people lay the blame on the Field of View (FoV) being lowered to 75 instead of the usual 90 on most games. Creates a kind of tunnel vision, that improved game graphics, but has a side effect on some people.

I am fairly sure that you can change the FOV, I think I saw it in the settings screen for some of the games (possibly L4D2) and will likely be an option within the console.

Quick search online reveals:

default_fov 90
sv_cheats 1
fov 90

EDIT: Just had a look at HL2EP2 and it has the FOV option in the advanced graphics settings. Unavailable in HL2, HL2EP1 and Portal.

I realise that and totally agree, but I got tired of having to keep my PC up to date. Consoles are the easy option and despite my initial disgust, you do get used to a c-pad - but it's no where near as good as a mouse and keyboard.

The HL2 engine is amazing and in the era of "constant upgrades" it's rather impressive that you can run it at a fairly decent framework on machines that are more than 10 years old. Sure it doesn't look quite as pretty but that's not actually the point...

Anyways Portal was awesome. I remember when I first got around to playing I was a bit let down but 8 or 10 rooms in and I was beyond hooked.

GLaDoS is one of the best characters in any computer game ever and she's so brilliantly written/voiced.

And the end sequence was simply worth the cost of the entire Orange Box alone.

I have to admit, I agree with you, the ease of console ownership and the lack of hardware updates needed is great especially when you are spending £2k+ on new CPU's, GPU's etc.
