Oh and by the way, I'm never carrying a bag again. used my GoKart for the first time last night and although it was only for 9 holes it was bliss! The only annoying part last night was the fact that I played like a complete amateur.

Question in General but really for GB or Rich
I have my club champs on Sunday. My current putter is bent and the grip has slipped so if I now grip it square on the grip the club face is closed. not by a lot but visible. I was planning on getting a new putter after the club champs anyway but now am toying with the idea of getting one on Saturday morning, playing with it Saturday and then using it Sunday. I have been missing too many short putts (2 1/2 feet) but have found a routine now that works for those with my current putter. So the question is, change or stay with the old one for the weekend. Currently have a two ball and will likely change for a scotty or yes blade |

Get a new one on Saturday and get out there straight away to get used to it ready for Sunday.

I'd get a new one and use it Saturday. What was you thinking of getting? Will it be a big change from the putter you use now?

I bought a Mizuno Bettinardi blade off golf bidder for about £80 a year or two ago. What a putter that is. Don't think they make them any more

I still use the original Odyssey #5 White hot which probably came out about 10/11 years ago. I really would like to get a new putter but I putt so well with this one there doesnt really seem much point in changing.

Agreed Swanny, if you find something you love then don't change it
I only changed from my ping as the face came away from the back section. |

I do sometimes think "if I can putt his well with an old putter imagine what I'll be like with a new one" but I think that's just me looking for an excuse to buy something.

After my enquiry to Mike about Haywards Heath played our Capts Away Day there yesterday - we mostly got away with good weather but had an absolute deluge for 3 holes in the afternoon!
Nice course with some challenging holes, very good condition although the fairways did seem to retain a lot of the deluge which may be a sign of drainage issues in winter? The weakest part of the course visually is the early back nine holes - 11, 12, 13 which go up and back alongside one another and have some badly explained OOB posts. The holes in isolation are good, but the layout is a bit ho hum. Nice traditional club house selling good beer, did a great meal for us, and very friendly members around as well. My impression could be influenced by winning the day with 39 points however! Didn't do so well in the morning team nine hole but went on a great run in the afternoon, 6 over gross on the front nine including a blob, but with 5 pars, 23 points in the bag, weaker back nine but still 2 pars but only 16 points and two bad holes to finish. Won a nice pair of Footjoy AQLs & some wine.

Will you go for an anser style Scotty? The feel might be a bit different to a 2 ball. Have you tried the Oddysey that Luke Donald uses? They putt great. I was really tempted to get one. I'm currently using my old nickel Ping pal 2. I'm a big fan of the old Pings. |

Donalds putter is the "Fang", I gave it a bash in Nevada Bobs and really liked it but just think it's ugly as sin.

It all depends what your putting stroke is like. If you're straight back and through, then a mallet/two ball is generally thought of as the right way to go. If you open then close, a blade is a better option. I had a two ball, my putting was terrible (I also think it may have been a fake). I changed my grip, putting improved slightly. But still 3 putted a lot.
Then I read about the putting stroke and started trying out the mizuno bettinardi black carbon (I think) putters at Woodmans and loved them but they were uber expensive, so took a punt on an ex display Bettinardi C-03, which were the previous models, for £80 (when new they used to cost a lot more than that), and loved it. After getting it I hardly ever 3 putted. Mostly 2 putts and a few 1 putts. Until recently that is, but that's because my game has taken a bit of a nosedive recently.

I very rarely have a 3 putt, putting is the one part of my game that I have confidence in, wish I could say the same for the other end of the hole....the tee block.

^ I remember reading somewhere that an old pro at a club was helping some guy with his putting. So the pro pulled out his putter out which was a haggard looking old thing to show some techniques. The guy he was teaching remarked about it's old appearance and the pro said it was the only putter he'd ever used.
He said 'Find a putter you're happy with and never change it.' |
