I got home for the last 10 km or so. A bit of a calmer stage, but not quite so. I didn't manage to get all the details. There was the classic breakaway, this time without any of the favourites. Then Karpets got off down the road away from the Pink jersey pack. He had no chance of joining the breakaway, but the peloton let him go. He had a 4 minute lead on the peleton at one point, and it was only then that Liquigas got their heads down to reduce the lead. Karpets crossed the finishing line with a two and a half minute lead over the peloton and has thus brought himself back into contention. A lot of riders are playing cat and mouse with each other. Great entertainment though.

Yesterday was stage 14. Nibali took it by getting away from Scarponi, Evans and Basso on the descent. Vinokourov and Sastre couldn't stick with the pace on the climb. Vinokourov tried all he could to pull the leaders back in the final 10 km and may pay for those efforts today. For Arroyo it was damage limitation time but he still got the pink leader's jersey. Wiggins attacked on the climb but couldn't get away.

Well done on picking Basso! What a performance from Sastre as well, where did he come from?

Unfortunately looks like Wiggo's had his 'concentrating on Le Tour' moment.

Cheers. Basso didn't have much to do except stay on Evans and Scarponi's wheel at the end of yesterday's stage. So he saved a bit of energy. Nibali paid for his solo effort yesterday too.
But what a climb though. And what a crowd too. It's a pity the Tour de France can't use climbs like that for logistical reasons.
From a personal point of view, I'm ashamed I haven't done any of the legendary ''cols'' in the Alps (they're only an hour or two's drive from here). I did once do a climb in the Alps which was 10km long with an average slope of 10%. There was a feeding station at the top plus a Red Cross post. I filled up my bottle but left it on the table and headed off down the other side only to realise that I had no bottle a couple of hundred metres down. Of course I had to turn around and ride back up. I didn't need that, I can tell you!

Sastre is a bit of a diesel engine. He can't take the acceleration that often happens at the start of a climb but just plods on taking out the other riders one by one. Scarponi didn't need much more to overtake Evans at the end either.
I think we deserve that rest day tomorrow.

No Alpe d'Huez again this year I see! The Madeleine looks the stand-out alpine stage but the pyrenees more interesting - the Tourmalet, they're going to climb it twice wtf ??
