Even without Christian VDV Wiggins ought to be able to be competing with the best and challenging for a podium place (think your predcition of 5th of about right though)
Any news on how long Christian VDV will be out for?

Slightly off topic (Perhaps it ought to have a separate thread) – anyone seen any of the Halfords Tour Series which started just over a week ago?
They are each Tuesday & Thursday for 5 weeks & started last week at Canary Wharf and finish on 24th Jun 10 in Woking and are multiple laps of short town centre courses. They are covered by ITV4 on Wed and Friday at 7:00 pm.
The Durham one was very entertaining with Malcolm Elliot sprinting to victory on a hilly course after a group of 5 or 6 successfully broke away. I’m always amazed by Elliott’s ability at almost 49 to successfully compete with the younger guys … if only I could be the running equivalent…
PS - no spoilers about what happened in yesterday’s race until at least 7:00 this evening!

Perhaps Kab could ask a mod to change thread title - pro cycling thread or something? Otherwise we'd end up with a load of minor threads about the tour of switzerland etc.

I missed watching this yesterday btw.

Didn't miss that much - there were a few breakaways which were all reeled back in, the main interest were several big crashes due to rain and several points where the course narrowed
I'll PM Kab

Frank Schleck attacked in the tour of luxembourg today with Carrara which the others couldn't respond to. Interesting early sighter with regards to the tdf.

I watched quite a lot of the Giro last year and got quite excited with the return of Langstrong etc.

Missed out on it totally this year - looked like it might have been quite gripping with some decent climbing stages. I can't help but feel a bit deflated by seeing the likes of Basso and Vinokourov towards the top of the standings though - The 2 year bans seem a bit short to me.

Some of the climbing stages were absolutely monumental! Vino is a far worse offender than Basso tbf.

Hey - they changed the thread title! Well played the mod.

A few things -

Contador impressive winning DL prologue.

Sastre will be riding TDF.

Thor Hushovd has returned from injury - pleased for him, immense admiration for the way he rode that stage on the tour last year on a point of honour when he didn't really need to for green.

Your final point is spot on - it was one of the most impressive pieces of riding in last year's TdF, he's not built for the moutntains but led over Col des Saisies and Cte d'Araches to get points - a brilliant ride

You are right - reported yesterday that he will lead the Garmin Transitions team and will be aiming to equal the 5th spot he got in 2008

He's coming along nicely the welsh kid.

Today's time trial should be interesting.

Poor performance in the time trial today by Contador. Denis Menchov looks to be coming in to some good form though.

Good day for David Millar - 2nd & 2nd in GC, probably an ideal course for him given the profile you posted earlier

Nice little climb tomorrow. Contador looks as though he's got a bit of weight to lose just before the tour IMO, so he may or may not attack.

And it was too. Millar did well, as did the Welsh kid. I watched some of it on Eurosport but fell asleep about halfway through Contador's TT, my own three hours in the saddle having sapped some of my energy. This is no objective for Contador who's taking no risks. Menchov also did quite well. He'll be one of my favourites for the Tour de France. I think it's the first time I've heard his name mentioned this year. I'd be very curious to know how many days racing he's had this season.
