iPhone 3G Problem
Looking for some help, the wife's iPhone is a bit buggered, basically it won't take a charge and has run completely flat, it's something to do with the connection on the bottom of the iPhone where you plug the charger in, it doesn't stay in and up until now we have been able to hold the charger in a certain position for it to charge, unfortunately that is no longer working.

She has spoken to O2 who have said that she can upgrade the phone to the iPhone 4 tomorrow, which she is going to do but she'll need all her photo's and calendar stuff off her 3G which as far as I can see isn't possible, any one got any ideas?

Buy a new dock connector on eBay, take iPhone apart and install.

iPhone 3g is easy to take apart, undo 2 screws at bottom, put a sucker (like a sat nav holder) onto screen and gently pull off

All the info will go onto the iPhone 4 from the last time the 3G was sync'd, so will only lose the info that has been put on their since the last sync.

Don't know about taking it apart, was never that brave!

I'll give the dock a shot, problem is she doesn't know what she has booked in for tomorrow and Friday and the last time she sync'd her 3G was about a month ago so there will be loads of bookings on there that she needs.

I take it her calendar isn't synced with her e-mail? If you know anyone with an old 3G just take them apart and swap motherboards between casing. Easiest option. I've got a knackered old 3G here but won't be any good for you tomorrow!

ok, plugin the 3g iphone to your laptop and makesure you sync with itunes. (MAKE NOTE OF THE IPHONE NAME).
This will backup all of the data on your phone. If you use gmail all of these settings will be backed up also. If you are using pop email (not recommended) you will need to re add this account later.

Once backed up, go get your iphone4, plug it in to itunes and register new phone, ensure you give the phone the same name as your old phone. Then sync.
All of your settings, contacts, emails, photos etc will be copied over.

Highly recommended jail-breaking the new iphone. Allows you to get all apps for free.

I think you missed the point. The dock connector is broken
