Stevens wins mini session 3-1, a ray of hope (though Ronnie not showing signs of an implosion yet)

That was a great session, Stevens showed what he's capable of but all too late, had he finished it 14-10 then maybe a sniff but 15-9 is just too much. Ronnie didn't panic in fairness.
Strong feeling Maguire will push Carter to 17-15 at least, might see if there is a 4th session winner market |

Maguire has lost every 50/50 type situation in this match, would have won if the referee had called a miss from the snooker, bit controversial.

Think there are 3 different commentaries, am listening to B365 (Worldsnooker.tv) commentary and he said it shouldn't have been called a miss even though he initially thought it was and I respect his opinion...but at that pace it has to be called a miss I'm pretty sure
Was annoying but fair play to Carter for still winning the frame from where he did |

Oh well, Carter gets the fluke of the tournament and leads 16-10. Game over. Was similar to Ronnie's snooker, and he had to continually take every shot until he made the shot.

It was pretty sick
He's not over the line yet, had a lay at 1.04, then saw 30.0 was available so topped up annoyed I hadn't taken 30.0 in the first place! Nothing I hate more... |

Oh well, shame it was such a crappy work week, never got to cover my 16/1 or 7s for the final.

Yep didn't lay off either, Maguire had his chances, trying to work out what will happen in the final, part of me think Ronnie will boot Ali but part of me thinks Ronnie's long game is that poor that Ali will have chances in the balls which he's playing well enough to exploit
I think I'll go with Ali, Ronnie's no spring chicken and will be 1.3ish I'm guessing, I so should have backed Carter at 10.5 before the semis started Will look at the 50s / 100s bets tomorrow, low is normally the way to go after a few gruelling matches, though Ronnie hasn't been pushed so not sure, will wait till I'm sober and see what appeals Am assuming Ronnie will win, pretty safe assumption... |

So it's Ronnie Carter (sounds like an East End gangster).
Ronnie's never lost a world final. I hope this continues.

I hope Ali wins, ok he's been a bit ungracious in victory (vs Trump anyway) but he's genuinely a nice bloke (ok I've never met him but he writes the odd article on snookerbacker.com and those who know him only have good things to say about him), he owns a snooker club, loves the game, has had a horrific year healthwise, changing to a vegan diet (with the help of vegan Peter Ebdon) has made a huge change to his life and I think it would mean 10 times more to him to win his 1st than for Ronnie to win his 4th
I can't believe how short Ronnie is, 1.25 when in all honesty Stevens didn't turn up till the 4th session, ok Ronnie has been good but Carter's pot percentage has been very high, he's been there once before so might not be too intimidated, having Ebdon by his side will also help. I see the match as maybe not 50/50 but certainly not 20/80, certainly think Carter will cover the handicap fairly easily Ronnie's long potting has been average at best, Carter has won so many frames he could and should have lost and against Ronnie that's what you have to do to put seeds of doubt in his mind Carter to win the Worlds, 4pts at 5.0 with Betfair Over 4.5 centuries, 3pts at 2.1 with Paddy Power Carter +5.5 to beat Ronnie, 4pts at 2.0 with Corals, Totesport, Betfred, SJ 50s break spread is at 21.5 which makes me chuckle at the Hendry / Maguire one at 19.5 over 10 frames fewer Think the tons is much safer than the 50s though |

Same I don't like Carter that much to be honest. I remember him moaning a few years back when Hendry beat him in the final frame. Ronnie says he might retire. If he goes, and Hendry is gone snooker will start to fall from grace even more so. |

Yeah I lost a lot of respect for Carter when he started moaning about how 'lucky' Judd Trump is; not just in that game, but in his career in general. That's a ridiculous thing to say. He's done well though as Finbar said after a nightmare season.
I don't think Hendry's much of a loss to snooker now but O'Sullivan certainly would be. If he loses tomorrow night he'll probably announce his retirement straight afterwards, and take all the shine off Carter's win. That snookerbacker site that finbar mentioned is a proper good read. I like the idea of cutting the semi-finals. They're way too long. I remember they used to be best of 31. That was long enough. Why the hell did they make them even longer?

Ronnie threatens to retire at least twice a year though I think this time he might be serious.
Snooker has been without Hendry for the last 6 or 7 years (effectively), he's not won a major since the 90s, and Ronnie has come and gone for years, he would be a massive loss but snooker is in the best shape it's been since the days of tobacco sponsorship. Add to that there are now more and more chinese players getting to the televised stages means there will just get more and more sponsorship, they just announced a new tournament in China with Ł125,000 first prize (best of 17 semis, best of 21 final and will probably become the 4th major the game needs). Plus you have MJW and Allen tweeting all sorts of stuff which keeps snooker in the papers, am very happy with where it is right now. Even though I do think this tournament has been all the worse for the early shocks making the latter rounds a lot less appealing (Allen vs Ding in round 2 for example would have been great!) I am not an impartial observer though it has to be said It will never compete with certain sports but while the BBC is televising the Worlds it'll stay in the public eye, when they pull out then it'll probably go to China which is when it gets tricky (though I'll be able to watch more of it when it's there from here in Aus on the plus side!) |

Yep it is great, also the prosnookerblog site is great, I remember being really hacked off a couple of years ago when hacks from the Daily Mail would get in the press room not even knowing who half the players were, when the real snooker journos wouldn't get a look in, thankfully that's now been addressed
These are the sites I'm talking about, PSG is the ranking guru, a lot of the players go to him before anyone when they want to know what's going on http://prosnookerblog.com/ http://snookerbacker.com/ here is an interview with Carter from 4 days before the Worlds started, Carter has supported that blog for a long time and posts 2 or 3 articles a year of how he's doing, he comes across as a great bloke despite the Trump performance where he did make a tit of himself, mind you I'm not much of a fan of Trump either to be honest, he's getting very big for his boots without really having the results to back it up http://www.snookerbacker.com/2012/04...in-ali-carter/ |

Got another free bet on Ali, though have lumped on him in the overall winners market so not sure this is really all that good, still get a feeling of immense satisfaction from these though
