Can Ipswich do a Houdini and send the Mackems down?

I would love it if Ipswich could pull something out the bag and beat either Liverpool or Man Utd. Not only could it save them from relegation but it could stop Moan U winning the title as well.

They play excellent football and really shouldn't be where they are. Sunderland on the other hand, I would love to go down, I don't know why but they really annoy me.

After last night's victory over Middlesbrough they now have a real chance. If they did manage to espcape it would be the first time ever that a club has been bottom at Christmas, and stayed up.

Do you think Ipswich can do it?

Yes - I do actually. I think Sunderland will be starting to feel a bit nervous.

I would much rather check out some Suffolk ales in the Drum and Monkey next season than spend countless hours on a train coming back from a heavy defeat in the North East.

So sorry tractor boys but i'll be hoping the Mancs send you down on saturday (stopping the Arsenal bandwagon would be a nice bonus)

Although we do have a decent record against the Mackems in recent times. Two of our best performances the previous season were agianst them. Who remembers Morrison's scorching half volley??? We would have won that game if Fan hadn't got injured as well.

Skin Up - would you really rather see The Scum win the title than Arsenal?

Surely Man U are still public enemy number one?

Well I want Ipswich to go down for selfish reason as it's a top away day trip.

Not really bothered who wins the title as long as it's not Arsenal.

Don't think Ipswich can do it, but I tell you what, they can give Charlton a big scare if the Clowns lose at home to Sunderland. Ipswich need to win their last three games, which is almost impossible, but I remember saying that about Oldham in 93. AARRRGHHHH horrible memories. Be funny if history repeats itself though!

Wow - just checked the fixtures.

Ipswich have Man Utd at home and Liverpool away. If they do the impossible and get 6 points then they'll have 42 points and a goal difference of at least -15 or better

Clownton have 42 points so they need only one draw from two games to be certain of survival. They have Sunderland at home (could easily lose that) and Man Utd away (will almost definitely lose that, could get hammered). Goal difference could conceivably drop from -11 to -16.

So it could go down to the last day of the season if Ipswich win and Charlton lose on Saturday - COME ON

I'd like to say Yes, and indeed I'd much rather Sunderland went down than Ipswich (and thereby relegating all the promoted teams from the 96/97 season, in the order they went up ). However, Ipswich would need at least 2 points - so a win or two draws against Man Utd and Liverpool... almost impossible. Also, Sunderland have Derby at home in their last game. Not exactly a massive challenge.

Prefer to see Ipswich stay up than Sunderland (football quality reasons only).

Sunderland have Charlton away and Derby at home is that right?

They've got easier games but what team are Man U putting out given that they'll definitely not have GNeville and Beckham and probably not Scholes plus they may rest others. Still probably good enough to get at least a point at Ipswich. Shame.

Won't even be close - Ipswich have all the points they are getting I'm afraid. It's a pity 'cos if they won Saturday that could be Utd's season over.

Still - I'm looking forward to the silence when the prawn sandwich brigade have to watch Arsenal win the title at Old Trafford.

I've always had a soft spot for Ipswich up until last year when we played Stockport and my Ipswich supporting ex-boss/"mate" said he was laughing his head off when he thought we would be going down.
W@nker. And i'll look forward to seeing him next season!

If there were no Palace angle, I would like Ipswich to stay up, but Sunderland in the First Division would be automatic favourites for the title, so I'd rather they stay where they are.

Neither Ipswich or Sunderland would be an easy proposition. I was talking with a friend of mine about it a few nights ago and we both felt Division One would be significantly more difficult than this season, and that Ipswich would go up automatically if they are relegated.

Ipswich have been a very stable club in recent years. I don't think relegation would be quite the crisis to them that it is to other clubs (although obviously it isn't desireable).

Its not just that they have to play Man Utd but Liverpool as well.. thats just an impossible scenario.. thats hard for even the best teams in Europe.. would prefer to see Ipswich stay up though..

As for them going straight back up.. Im not so sure.. Coventry and Bradford were big favorites at the start of last year and turned out mediocre.. promotion is up for grabs for any quality side.
