Conference Strikers

It got me thinking after reading about Morison now looking likely to make the step from non league to Premiership in a couple of years, and prior to that Beckford-that we should consider top scorers within the conference.

Not only will these players be cheap, but they will be hungry to do well as it is their one chance at the big time. These players can obviously stick the ball away as well albeit at a lower level.

I don't believe for one second that Crawley actually turned down a bid of that amount as I don't think anyone would be stupid enough to bid that for a non-league player.

Think Tubbs will end up at Peterborough for about half that.

EDIT: And if I am wrong, sincere apologies. Non-league (or, just promoted to league players) being sold for that kind of money is killing the game more than the fees in the Premier League.

living in York and watching then a few times this season best player i've seen play this season that was not tubbs is Barnes Homer fast and skillful but its a big step up!

This isn't the first £1m+ bid that Crawley have turned down for Tubbs. Whilst there is no proof (you can't prove it if it's turned down) the details come from somebody who also predicted the signing of John Akinde before it was announced and who told me at the weekend that they were about to sign somebody from Reading, which they have now done. My only point in this is that he has not so far been wrong where it can be proved.

Non league or not there can't be too many strikers out there who have scored 70+ goals in two seasons, I agree it seems a risk but the bid - if true - came from a much bigger club than Peterborough. The point is that to get a player away from Crawley it will take silly money. Back befoire the last window the club said that they wouldn't consider less than £1m and that was before promotion or most of the cup run. They have yet to spend any of the cup run money so have no need to sell.

Pretty sure there is a difference when a bid £1.25m bid gets turned down than the chairman saying he won't sell a player unless they get a £20m.

I'd honestly be amazed if they have turned down a bid for over a million. Not doubting you but would genuinely be surprised that anyone would pay that for a Conference striker.

Steve Morison, Jermaine beckford-doesn't always happen but sometimes it does, and they're on less money and require less transfer fee than some. Annoys me when some dismiss a suggestion just because it hasnt always worked. Every transfer is a risk
