PUBS FOR PETERBOROUGH

Apologies if there are other thread's on this but one of my colleague's who lives in Peterborough has provided a brief synopsis of watering holes as follows:

"Start in the Brewery Tap which is in my view the best pub in Pboro (not much competition to be fair) or Drapers Arms (wetherspoons). Both over the road from the train station at either end of the bus station. Brewery tap may not have a lot of atmosphere at 11 in the morning but it is a brew pub (you can actually see the beer being brewed which is quite cool) and has loads of ales on tap and does a good jar of lager too. Drapers is a typical wetherspoons, beer and burger for only a fiver cheap-as-u-like, but does a decent pint. It will be a bit busier at 11 and is where a lot of away fans (and some home fans) start for a drink. No away shirts, and don't give it the bigg'un or you won't get in.

Charters is the barge pub which is closer to the ground and has a good mix of home and away fans. Good atmosphere (especially when weather is good) and usually has cask ales being sold outside as well as beer sold inside (including by the pitcher!). It gets rammo on match days from about 1pm so if you want to get a seat, get here early; but lots of space to stand and sit on the grass outside.

The away pub near the ground is called the Cherry Tree. Don't know much about it but it does some good guest ales. Small 'spit and saw dust' boozer.

Few other boozers a bit further up the road that the cherry tree is on, but will be full of posh and can be a bit rough. Prob best avoid.

Bars and pubs in the city centre itself which you could go to after the game but the brewery tap is a good place to finish before you get the train as you can get some decent grub. It does thai/pan asian food and it is pretty good!"

Hopefully this is useful for everyone...............

I will be starting at the Brewery tap and finishing at Charters. In between I will be checking out the Coalheavers Arms which is another Good Beer Guide pub. Ales from the Milton brewery plus other independents, real cider and a large garden. Might try the Cherry Tree as well if there's time.

Do you know if the Brewery Tap & Charters are def open at 11.00am?

Would rather not 'waste' an hour in a Wetherspoons unless necessary.

I think you probably have to be discreet but with so many Palace out for this game it may be difficult when we may be taking over some of these places

I have just posted a new thread about Pubs in Peterborough , The Brewery Tap doesnt opne until twele on a match day , it is strictly no colours at all on matchdays and tends to get very busy with Shoppers eating meals as it has a very good reputation for thai food as well.

Just along the road from the drapers arms in the town centre is the Grapevine, (please see seperate thread for all details) but its a traditional pub serving Cask ales as well as Lagers Ciders etc. It is also child friendly and has its own small beer garden , the only pub in the town centre that does.

All details including directions are on the other post , headed Watering Hole For Peterborough.

But any questions you have just ask .

Good luck for the new season , apart from saturday of course .

I was in Boro this weekend, Doh! and had breaky in yates. PE1 1TA

Standard breaky £2.95 big £4.95 including tea or coffee.

They also do a food and beer offer as well. Typical yates pub with skysports on the box so if an early ko it may be on in there.

I'm at a wedding, damn you Rob! lol.

Where's the Yates from the station sounds good if can't get in the Brewery tap.
Why is it pubs don't like fans in colours when everyone knows they are the ones who are less likely too kick off.

I know what you mean however football fans do that, no matter if there in colours or not.Which is a shame for the decent supporter who wants too wear colours and have a quiet drink although saying that i don't wear colours (except for my retro scarve) and i like to have a good sing song
