[quote=PeterH}
With the possible spectre of relegation every season, fans of most clubs have to look at who are more likely to get relegated than their club. It's our nature. How Portsmouth avoided it with the debts they had is a mystery. Whether they, Brum, Boro, Hull, Derby, Coventry or other teams can avoid it this term I don't know. Getting promoted to the greed league seems a poisoned chalice. Players wages seems to be the issue. [/QUOTE] This is what pretty much sums it for me. But, I suspect like Coventry, Watford, etc they will probably find some way of avoiding admin. Players wages are the big issue - I someone has mentioned Hull are stuck with Bullard's wage of £45k a week. Any C'Ship side would love to sign him but not even on half that salary. It's been talked about on another thread but Anthony Gardner reportedly wants £16k a week. I think CPFC offered around just over half that and it seems he's prepared to hold out for what he feels he's worth. Unless, Forest want him, there don't seem to be many takers. He did quite well for Palace last season but was certainly not outstanding. His days as an injury prone P'Ship player are probably over and it would appear that he has made a pretty good living out of what has been so far, an OK career. No one wants to take a pay cut but you would have thought a salary of £400/500K a year at a club (CPFC) would not have been too bad, but he is obviously holding out for the best deal, but surely not, in his heart of hearts, feels what he is really worth. Any player who has had any Prem experience basically gets paid way too much and if any side falls through the trap door to the C'Ship, especially someone like Brum, as they didn't expect it, then they have massive problems. Lets face it, most B'Ham players are high earners and although they have got rid of I think 3 players and the parachute money they get, the financial difference between the Prem and C'Ship is so vast, they look in some trouble to me. |

Not really. Who knows anything about the new Thai owners that they have ? Have clubs going down that road covered themselves in glory recently ? No. The 'fit and proper' criteria are not really enforced.

The more this happens, the more likely it will become that governments will force changes to the bodies which are supposed to be administering this "Sport".
Feel sorry for all the small businesses who are going to be screwed over and families effected, not for clubs. Real fans of the sport will get being a rebirth of the clubs from grassroots anyhow. Gold/Sullivan have stitched up Brum, they knew damn well who they were selling to - just like Noades did with us. |

I can't say administration ever felt that bad. Its not like I am unused to palace having the odd crap season regardless of the reason. Hence, Vaughan. Two spells at Palace, and we had first option. I suspect IF we had a chance to buy in January (yep, I know about the relegation risk) the wage he would have wanted was the problem. At the end of the season, Norwich could offer him that wage, and the money they were willing to pay Everton knocked us out of the running (plus Premier football of course). Hopefully, Championship clubs can have a ceiling of say 10k a week for their best players, when the regulations come in. I doubt a similar ceiling of say 50k a week will be adhered to in the Premier league. That causes a problem for those players that are stuck between the two leagues in way of quality. A promising talent, or a good pro that gets promoted. A season or two of the Premier dream until a new manager doesn't like him, and then he his asked to take a 20 grand or more cut to continue to play football. One hopes that they have managed to put a substantial amount of that Premier money in the bank. Still, we are Palace and we should worry about ourselves, and not just above average ex Prem footballers on obscene wages.

I was looking at there side and I was quite surprised how weak it is. Something I reckon Chris Hughton didn't expect to see at this point when he applied for the job a month or so ago.
Scott Dann and Ben Foster will probably force moves to The Premiership based on performances last season. If there financial situation gets worse i'm sure Liam Ridgewell may leave as well as a side like Wolves will be perfectly suited for him. Players like David Bentley, Craig Gardner, Alkesander Hleb, Sebastian Larsson, Barry Ferguson, Matt Derbyshire, Lee Bowyer and Roger Johnson have already departed. While Nicola Zigic will definitely be going due to his reputation abroad. That would leave them with the likes of Colin Doyle, Stephen Carr, Kevin Fahey, Cameron Jerome, Chris Burke and Marlon King. To think most of us assumed that West Ham were going to be relegated team with a financial meltdown! I reckon Nathaniel Clyne may become slightly relieved he didn't join them last summer as the season progresses. I don't expect them to achieve a double relegation, however, I think promotion is a very ambitious target for them currently. A mid table finish is probably the most realistic place they could finish this season. |

Assuming Zigic and Foster go, this is their current squad. Reminds me alot of Portsmouth in that they really lack any depth. This is not a team capable of promotion on the bounce.
GK 13 GK Colin Doyle 34 GK Jack Butland RB 2 DF Stephen Carr (34) CB 6 DF Liam Ridgewell (27) 15 DF Scott Dann (24) 32 DF Curtis Davies (27) 33 DF Alpaslan Öztürk 31 DF Fraser Kerr LB 3 DF David Murphy (27) — DF Steven Caldwell (30) RM — MF Chris Burke (27) 27 MF Nathan Redmond (17) CM 18 Keith Fahey (24) — MF Míchel (25) 20 MF Enric Vallès (21) 25 MF Jordon Mutch (19) LM 23 MF Jean Beausejour (27) — MF Morgaro Gomis (26) FW 10 FW Cameron Jerome (24) — FW Marlon King (31) — FW Adam Rooney (23) 30 FW Akwasi Asante

Jerome wants out as do at least a couple of the others. They were due to go to Tanzania on preseason but that fell through after Yeung was arrested - not that the players were concerned about that. They are concerned about getting paid though. A lot of things have been promised and never supplied and Pannu has no idea about english football - or football in general and is way out of his depth.
I do feel sorry for them - no one deserves this sort of rubbish. I bet they wish they still had Gold and Sullivan now though.
