Guildford City FC - Combined Counties
Last season GCFC won the Premier Division title by 3 points - but were unable to take promotion due to their ground not being 'up to scratch'. This was silly politics by the FA - and being a small club GCFC were unable to take it further due to lack of finances.
This season though the boys are back - There is only one missing from last seasons squad (he is now abroad). It says an awful lot for a club whereby the Management and squad ALL return. The boys have had a good run out in their pre-season - without a loss. They started this season last Saturday away to Mole Valley. Guildford won 6-2 in an extremely entertaining watchable game. This is where I will be watching this season. I will keep you posted (well, those who are interested) on their progress. www.guildfordcityfc.co.uk |

Would be good to see you Neil.
We were at Cobham Fc (Playing Mole Valley) on Saturday. The ground neither of us could find last season. ![]() |

Imagine if that place was up for ground grading... the inspectors would never find the entrance!

To be fair though the ground specs have been around for years and years, I played for merstham about 10 years ago and we knew at the time we couldnt get promoted into the rymans league from the Combined counties untill the ground was improved.
I cant remember exactly the ground specs but I do remember that you have to have so many parking spaces and covered stand etc. I always keep an eye on the combined counties and the best of luck to them |

If it's any consolation about the ground thing, then at least it got rid of Chertsey. More complete distortion next season in the form of Guernsey, though.

I stopped going to watch Palace when my son(s) began playing football on Saturdays. Which was about 6-7 years ago. I do still follow Palace and am still a fan. This is my older sons 3rd season at GCFC and the 2nd season for my younger son.
Chertsey fc -we will be playing them again this season -Guildford have drawn them in the Surrey Senior Cup - 26th(ish) October. Should be fun!!! ![]() |

Some very onerous conditions placed on them. No midweek home advantage - all matches on the island must take place on a Saturday; Guernsey have to pay the travel and accommodation expenses of all away sides until (I think) they reach Conference South. Fair play for giving it a go but bad news for the other clubs. CCC Premier is the dumping ground for post-insolvency clubs or heavily-backed new sides and it regularly distorts the competition. My side Chessy were beaten 3-0 at Sandhurst. Two men off after the ref lost control and Sandhurst taunted us off the pitch at the end. Unsavoury stuff.

Guildford 4 - Sandhurst 1
Good game to night, also - 10 goals scored in the first 2 games. ![]() The club have received a letter this week from the FA - it states that the ground has now got the grading required. The ground is no different to when the FA inspected it 3 months ago. If I were a cynic - I would say dodgy dealings!! - but I will just call them Idiots. |

Bear in mind Guernsey have gone into Div 1 not the Premier so should not impact on Guildford City's campaign. |

Well, I'm a bloody cynic. How can a ground that also houses athletic events that are far better attended, without any sort of issue, suddenly not be fit for Step 4 football. Stinks to high heaven, but if the club kick up a fuss, you can bet their grading will suddenly be put back under review.

Indeed, having seen both teams a few times in the last year, they are a much better side...

Godalming fell apart a bit last year when Chuck Martini went to Walton & Hersham.

Unsuprising really as he took the majority of the first team with him.
