NUFC eye Crystal Palace teen Wilfried Zaha
NEWCASTLE United are monitoring the progress of Crystal Palace starlet Wilfried Zaha.
The Chronicle understands that United boss Alan Pardew and his scouting network are keeping tabs on the teenager, who is at home as a striker or in the hole, as well as being able to operate as a right winger. As ever, Pardew is keeping his cards close to his chest with transfers, but work has been “ongoing” despite the closure of the transfer window. United operate a strict policy in not discussing their transfer targets in public, but Pardew’s contacts in the game are up there with the best of them, not least at his former club Palace. Palace are still recovering from a financial point of view after being plunged into administration in January 2010 and, like most Championship sides, have to consider any bids from Premier League outfits seriously. The 18-year-old Abidjan-born forward typifies the sort of players United are in the market for at the moment, and Zaha – Palace’s 2011 young player of the year – is also attracting interest from both Stoke City and Liverpool. The Eagles are thought to value Zaha at £3.5m, and Stoke’s director of football John Rudge has been in attendance at recent Palace matches to run the rule over the England Under-19 international. Zaha is still a developing talent, but has so far been renowned for his creativity and the ability to lay on goals for his team-mates. However, he also has four goals to his name this season after some notable exploits in the Carling Cup this season. Zaha bagged two against Crawley Town in the second round of the competition and continued his goal rush against Middlesbrough in a 2-1 win at Selhurst Park. Zaha is still in form at the moment, scoring against Brighton in a 3-1 win on the south coast and providing an assist against West Ham United. Palace young gun Zaha was born in the Ivory Coast but, having lived in London for most of his life, opted to represent the Three Lions under Under-19 boss Noel Blake. The Magpies are also still looking at Eren Derdiyok, but Udinese and Tottenham are also now in the chase for Bayer Leverkusen’s Swiss international. Read More http://www.chroniclelive.co.uk/newca...#ixzz1aYGgMcxq According to my toon mate, the bloke that wrote this article, Lee Ryder, is one of the best Newcastle journalists with contacts everywhere. He says this isn't your typical local rag with nothing behind it. I reckon there's no reason to panic though, Zaha has a long-term contract and we don't need to sell unless a completely ridiculous bid comes in. |

Typical shit journalism, we're not "recovering" from administration, our owners are probably worth more than that fat Ashley ponce.
And Pardew can fvck right off.

Are his contacts the same ones that allegedly recommended sol cambell to apply for our managers job? If so I'm sure they won't be taken too seriously

Can they afford him, although it wouldn't be a bad move for him at some point?

£35 million from Carroll, 6m from Enrique? 2m from Nolan. I agree though, it wouldn't be a bad move for him. Big club but not big enough to mean he wouldn't get games. They have a fairly small squad.

BULL we have to consider proper bids seriously, not any old crap you throw at us Its not too much to ask either for a journalist working at a local paper to know we are well clear of the threats from the administration days, given that we are playing in the second tier and our former chairman meant our situation before got plenty of press annyoying but anyone bidding will get corrected straight away if they bother with derogatory bids im sure

Non-story. If any premier scouts aren't looking at / monitoring players like Zaha they'd be sacked. It's more about how CPFC 2010 and the player think about their futures that'll be key.

I think scouts that represent all the Premier League clubs have seen hiim at some stage... They all know who he is, and have known about him for a few years.

Actually, he has. Much of Newcastle's early-season success is down to their successful scouting and recruitment over the summer. They have adopted a high risk, high reward strategy, targeting highly rated players who have been passed over by bigger clubs due to their medical histories. With Graeme Carr at the helm, they have also made considerable inroads in the French market - a place that was previously almost exclusively Arsenal's domain. As for the story in question, I don't doubt there is truth behind it. Considering the quality and quantity of our young players, it would be negligent for Premier League clubs to not have a presence at a high number of our matches. That said, there is an awful lot of supposition in the article. For instance, it states that Palace are thought to value Zaha at £3.5m. Considering his form, enormous potential and contract status, I suspect our valuation is considerably higher. |

However, judging from his Twitter account, Wilf seems a sensitive soul and a place like Newcastle is a long way from home for a young London lad. Both in a geographical and mental sense. |

I seriously hope we start getting decent money for our players. None of this £3.5m rubbish when other talented youngsters are going for £10m+

I doubt it to be honest. Ashley is extremely wealthy. Anyway, it's no suprise that clubs are keeping tabs on him, why wouldnt they! We have to accept that this is going to happen. Yes it is frustrating that there is still this perception that we are "skint", but am sure if any approaches are made our owners will soon put that straight. The fact remains we are still a selling club (as are about 80+ clubs in the league), but hopefully our days of a cheap selling club are over. Only time will tell. |

Isn’t Kazenga Lualua only at br1-3hton on loan? Once he goes back to Newcastle Wilf might struggle to get games with him in the team.
PFFFFFFFFTT…. I’m sorry, I tried to keep a straight face but it wasn’t possible!!
