I am nowhere near an wine expert but I am certainly enjoying drinking round the Okanagan. Quail's Gate wines are consistently good and amongst the best of the well known names. Nearby Mission Hill winery is bigger and produces a range of qualities, but their good stuff is very good. I also like Burrowing Owl winery which is further south between Oliver and Osoyoos. White Pinots seem to flourish in this region. I have not found a Pinot Nior that matches up to a good Burgundy though I have not tried the one you have. Full flavoured, in your face, typically new world, reds are popular in most price ranges. Predominantly Cabernet Sauvingon and Merlot. The top of the range Mission Hill "Oculus" has a more traditional Bordeaux style.

We could buy a 5 litre plastic keg of table wine for 35fr in Leclerc that used to taste fine sitting around a camp fire in the Dordogne. If you take it home it tastes like paint stripper.

Spent a long weekend at the Harvest wine festival in the Okanagan for my 30th birthday back in 2005 - tasted approaching 200 wines in 4 days. There are lots of good things to be found but small releases and high duty means very little makes it out of BC - the same can be said for boutique breweries; Anarchist Amber is a splendid beer out of the Penticton Brewery. You're right about Burrowing Owl, and further south still you have NK'mip which is owned and run by Native Canadians and produces some fine wines. The standout wine we had though was the 2003 Tantalus Reisling. I know the 2004 was good too, so it may be worth seeing what they are up to these days.

I'll have to try that one! One of my current favourites is the Voyager Shiraz 2007 which has been scarce since an "expert" in one of the newspapers here rated it higher than a Penfolds Grange, which sells for about $550 compared to $28 to $30. Probably not fair on the Grange as it can take 20 years to reach it's peak! |

I have a bottle of 2004 Chateau L'Inclassable that's going to need attacking in the very near future. Need to star thinking about wine for the festive season, if my client pays on time - otherwise it's the cheap stuff.

I have to agree with that, love a big Shiraz or Cab/Sav. Margaret River is a must for anyone visiting WA, great wines and some of the best surfing in Australia! I stayed on for a couple of days after a conference in Bunker Bay last year. After visiting some vineyards it was nice to sample some delicious wines with dinner while some whales were frolicking about 500 metres off the beach |

Hi Steve
Wonder if you could give me a bit of advice , I have a bottle of Vintage 1988 Dom Perignon , which I have kept since year 2000 ... will it go off ? Is there a date when it should have been drunk or should I just sell it ? I can't bring myself to drink it which sounds mad I know . |

Depends where you have kept the champagne. Good quality wine/champagne needs to be kept in the right way. |

A few friends and I, worked our way through half a case of Faustino1 last night.
A great wine, but does tend to turn your poo black the next day. |

It's nothing special, sorry. A medium bodied White wine. Serve cold with fish rather than sunday roast. Steve |

Booked for this yesterday, can't wait. I've told a few friends (football fans and catering industry types) about it and everyone is impressed that you would take the time. Many thanks. I should mention how helpful the guy on the phone was, and excited and positive about the direction the club is moving and what a great place it is to work now.
