Exclusive: Eagles to loan Doncaster defender

CRYSTAL Palace are set to sign Doncaster defender Mustapha Dumbuya today on a month's loan.

The South London Press understands that the 24-year-old, who has made eight appearances for Rovers this season, will complete his move this afternoon.

London-born Dumbuya joined Doncaster in 2009 from Wingate & Finchley.

They must apha good reason for doing this?

He's cheap, presumably cannot get into the Doncaster side and if he can't get a game there, he's bound to improve a club just outside the play-off places. There's three 'good' reasons for a start.

How about doing something radical and buy a defender?

It's odd that despite having 4 months to line up a defender to sign at the start of the window, we are having to sign a player for a month loan on January.

I understand he's cover, but the point is we had 4 months to avoid having to go this sort of loan

Certainly a bit strange. He's a right back and he's cup tied for the League Cup. Only played 6 league games for Doncaster this season.

I know many people on here see the slightest negativity as blasphemous, but this does seem desperate. Loaning a defender from the second worst side in the Championship? That's most likely it. It's just disappointing that we are going for this sort of loan cover when really someone should have been lined up for a permanent deal in the last 4 months.

I hate being negative when we sign someone. Hate it, but with this signing I can't help it. It's not even to do with the player, he could be fine. It's more the principle

Just to re-iterate, this guy is simply Full Back cover. Management still are prioritising a CB, just moved to get cover in at FB now.

Was just about to post this as I saw it on Rich Cawleys twitter.

Seems sensible. The management obviously feel that Akrukura (sp?) is not ready for the step up yet, and with only Clyne and Parr fit, it leaves us very little room for either one of them becoming injured, ill or suspended.

Added to that the uncertainty around Clyne, and if he gets sold, then we need somebody here to play at full back during January whilst we find a replacement. Makes sense.

CB is obviously now the priority. Permanent signing would be ideal, but obviously a loan would be preferrable to nothing! Let's see what happens!
