Which condenser mic
Just looking to buy a condenser mic for some home recording, no idea which model to get or how much a decent one costs.

Recommendations?

Subjective business mic selection but Rode NT2a is worth a look - review here http://www.soundonsound.com/sos/mar0...s/rodent2a.htm. costs around £240 at DV247 with a shock mount and pop filter.

Real answer is you need to find somewhere that lets you trial several at home or at least try them in the shop in a decent environment. Great place to do that is B&H NYC where they have a booth for just that - but unless you are going already that might add a little to the cost :-)

Gooders, it's a music forum and plenty of people here have recorded. The BBS has an element of trust I am not sure you can get on the likes of AV forums (plus I don't need to register all over the place)

Thanks Firesign, but I can be more specific. I need a large diaphragm mic with a cradle.

I'm looking at this one right now, even comes with a pop filter. Probably shit, but hey, so is my voice.......

Bought the SE2000, reviews looked decent in terms of bang for buck. Saved me buying a pop filter for it too.

Recording came out fine but we are having trouble mixing. Why? Because CuBase is too complicated for me and the other guys are too busy all of the time

I found someone at work who does mixing but they came up with worse than I managed - total gash. For a start we never recorded the backing vocals in sync as a whole track and he didn't manage to suss out that the chorus backing is heard 15 seconds before the chorus! I need to find somebody who can mix us a demo well, someone who is used to rock bands and multitracks. Time for a new thread........

What format are the files in at the moment? WAVs?

I'll have a go. Just started getting into producing in Ableton but don't have the set up for live band stuff at home.
