JJ's definition is one option and Radiohead would spring to mind as a current incarnation although they would probably be usurped by the Beatles (amongst others) by the 'of all time' option. The Smiths were(and remain) a hugely influential band. A recent NME special featured every current Indie act worth their salt eulogising about how The Smiths were the reason they were making music today. Morrissey (like him or loathe him) is a genius of the first order and is still a god-like figure for hundreds of thousands...especially in er....Mexico.
