Sustainable Development?
Since 1997, BHAFC has had to rebuild from scratch. These have been the principal objectives:
To survive as a club. (Achieved by drawing at Hereford on 3/5/97. Defeat would have meant relegation and, with no temporary home secured, probable liquidation.) To find a temporary home anywhere. (Two seasons at Gillingham, ninety miles from Brighton.) To find a temporary home in the Brighton area. (Twelve seasons at Withdean, during which time, in spite of fighting a debilitating campaign for a new stadium, with attendant public enquiries, the club played three seasons in the Championship.) To increase the capacity of Withdean to 8,700. (Achieved in two increments.) To find and build a new and permanent home. (The Amex.) To expand the Amex. (Capacity to be increased to 27,500 by August 2012, to 28,000 by December 2012, and to 30,750 by August 2013.) To build a new training complex. (Planning permission for a state-of-the-art complex in Lancing pending and likely to be approved.) It is hard to imagine how much more fundamental, comprehensive and sustainable the rebuilding of a football club could be. The rebuilding of the club will not be complete until the last seat is installed at the Amex and the training complex is ready for use. By then, the rebuilding process will have taken seventeen years. BHAFC cannot be accused of having too much too soon. |

So how long before you get the 100+ million you have spent back? Only then will it be sustainable, ploughing millions in each year is not sustainable for one man. |

Tony Bloom has a 95% shareholding in BHAFC. He funded the construction of the Amex at a cost of £93 million. The club received an interest-free loan from Mr Bloom, repayable over twenty years, and any monies not repaid by that time will be converted into shares for Mr Bloom. Is that not a wholly sustainable repayment set-up? The Amex generates more than £1 million per game and, already, is three years ahead of schedule in terms of money received. |

What a strange thread. Why did you post it on here?

I honestly think they are more bothered about trying to do one over on us rather than actually achieve something on the pitch. When they were sat in the play-offs it was "look how far we are above you" Rather than "look we might actually have a chance of promotion here" Their forum is packed out with threads about us, so there's probably no room for threads of their own. |

I started the thread because I read a lot of nonsense on this board about how BHAFC is the new Darlington, and such like, and how the club is not built on firm foundations, etc.
Hopefully, what I have written will make people aware of the facts. Why shouldn't I post on here, as I do occasionally? Is this not the site for away fans? |

Yes but the point is you have already borrowed millions off one man ,it would not be fair to keep asking him for more surely .You talk about the Amex generating £1 million ,fair enough if it does but what are the profit margins on this? .The food is franchised so would have thought you would get aprox 25% of the profits (normal set-up for outside catering company's) ,and then you have match day overheads, which must be high.On top of that you have the general running of your club, players and staff wages etc . You still have to be very careful unless as I said you are going to borrow more |

Southampton used to average 11k, now they will have 32K this weekend... It does work, but takes time.
Palace will rise again. This has been our lean period, we have scraped the bottom and are now on a upward curve. Where are Brighton in that curve, further on and further up, but after coming from further down below. Nothing goes up in a straight line - consolidation and set-backs will have to happen. But of course you wont be getting back to 6k crowds anytime soon. Saw some suits on the Brighton train the other week, they were handing over Corporate Season tickets to another group. Big wedge of them. Not your diehard type of fan, but am sure they are worth more bang to the buck than your normal punter. This is why I am very much for moving to the CPP. The corporate side and facilities to generate income will be so much better...

You do know that Bloom is a Brighton fan don't you, a very very rich one but a fan all the same. We didn't ask for money, it was offered and only a fool looks a gift horse in the mouth. As far as I'm aware also the contract between Azure and BHA is worth 17 million over 5 years, this of course could be total bollox but it is what I am led to believe from a sane person. Without wanting to divert this thread into another binfest, CPFC2010 breathed life back into Crystal Palace, without their Investment you were a couple of hours away from ceasing to exist, I cannot remember seeing protests by Palace fans that this would be unfair to the rest of the league.

My point really is that just because the Amex generates 1m the actual profit on this is somewhat lower . |

My aim was not to compare Albion in any way with Palace, or to score any points, but simply to make the point that the club has not done a bad job of going back to basics and rebuilding itself.
That is not to say that BHAFC is perfect and can learn nothing from other clubs. I would like the Albion to emulate Palace and develop a first-class academy, for example. What can Palace learn from Albion? Well, if and when their new stadium becomes a reality – and I hope that it does – then, from the start of the project to its completion, people from Palace will be talking to people at the Albion, taking advice. That stands to reason. |
