Same with corporate boxes - a company based in Canada Water might be more interested in splashing out for a box at a brand spanking new stadium under a roof at CPP - I know the East London line runs to Norwood Junction but it would be more glamorous for a corporate types being able to get the East London Line direct to Crystal Palace Station and having the Park/Stadium right there.

Also imagine how good something like 'Family Day' would be with the park surrounding the stadium.
I think building CPP as a pure football ground will be impossible due to the planning difficulties and cost involved.

For me, the logical way is to look at getting the GLC/mayor/even goverment involved and sell the idea as a "South London Stadium" that can be used for all sorts of events. This would hopefully get some much needed funding and planning support to really get somewhere, but South London has been completely neglected for years and this would really rejuvenate the whole area and give it some identity.

To accommodate this we would need one of those new artifical pitches they use in Russia but then I'm convinced that these will become the norm some time in the future so we would be ahead of our time. Ideally, a retractable roof would be great as you could host all sorts of events as well as football, as well as provide sound-proofing for the locals, but the cost would be astronomical. It would be a unique and futuristic stadium though that would attract a lot more fans.

It has to be the best site where we can develop as a club not because of sentimental attachments. Out of interest where was the site Wimbledon were supposedly looking at when they were at Selhurst ?

I grew up in West Norwood, London SE27 which is in Lambeth - it's very much associated with Crystal Palace - in fact the Palace when built in 1854 was in a bit of land known as Norwood Heights - West Norwood was known as 'Lower Norwood' - but once the snobby Victorians started buying up property around the Palace - that had to change to 'West' - as 'Lower' was associated with the poor! Funny how times change!

I think the whole 'Is it London?' thing is cobblers, personally.

Where does the name Crystal Palace come from? In reality it was built in Hyde Park - so the name is about as 'London' as you can get and of course if we were playing there - we would have a S.W.1 Post Code - and then you could start the argument up about wether that's South or West London!

When the Palace moved to Norwood, the borders of Surrey and Kent used to run right through the Park - so depending on where Palace trained, we could be Kent or Surrey on different days!

What about Selhurst Station - our home from 1918 to 1924. many of the surrounding roads are actually in West Croydon - and for those of you who are not aware, when you walk up the Holmesdale Road from Whitehorse Road, you are in West Croydon until you walk under the railway bridge into S.E.25 - not alot of people know that!

As a Norwood boy, I would love CPFC to move back up to to the Park - but I'm very wary of the various battles with residents, retailers and the pure complexity of creating a working traffic system, which locals know as being a recipe for disaster at any big event - many people have got lost for hours on end in the Crystal Palace Triangle!

Redeveloping Selhurst Park is probably the most feasible option and I think there are many ways of approaching the various problems posed, with completely realigning the stadium a way to overcome some of them.

"Most" fans do not come from Croydon. The latest poll (hardly representative I know) has 15% of fans saying they live in Croydon.

If I wanted to follow Croydon Athletic, I would. I support Crystal Palace. Park of Selhurst are the only options.

I think trying to create some sort of South London multipurpose arena would be foolhardy and risk the club being tied to a white elephent. London has many venues which are far better connected in terms of transport links, proximity to central London etc. Wembley stadium and arena, the 02, Earls court & Kensington Olympia, now the Olympic Stadium. Will people really want to travel on local overground rail out into the relative sticks? Millwall actually tried the same thing with the New Den, which was originally run by a private company and intended to be a multipurpose venue. It didn't work out at all nearly bankrupting them and they have a more central location than CPP. The other thing I'd hate to see would be Palace becoming tenants again, you only have to look at Coventry and the Ricoh to see how this can turn out. I think Palace need a purpose built football stadium which they own and which can be increased in size slowly as the club develops. Of course there's room for conference and banqueting type facilities, but the key is the football and increasing our support and revenue.

The largest single area Palace fans come from is the Borough of Croydon and everyone knows that poll or not. Furthermore, Palace is the local league club to Croydon, so the Croydon Athletic reference is a little pointless. I'm not saying the club should move further into the Borough, but if it presents the best viable option then it should be considered. Ideally a redeveloped Selhurst or the CPP are more attractive options than somewhere like Purley Way, but they also have big problems attached to them.

At the risk of getting flak from traditionalists we should have moved out to the M25 near the M23 or A22 years ago, that way we would have been nearer to where our supporters seem to be moving. Every year I feel less affinity to the areas around the ground where I use to live - my mates and family have moved out, the number of locals wearing Arsenal tops seems to be increasing and the pubs I used on matchdays are closing.
No way. Away fans complain about getting to Selhurst now, despite good transport links (we certainly have much better transport links than say Spurs). It'd be even worse if we move to the back of beyond. I was talking to my friend who is a Barnet fan & he tells me that the Bees might move out to Harrow (where their training ground is). This is a fair distance from Barnet and could kill the club. I don't want the same thing happening to Palace.

lol, yes because if I wanted to get my 72 virgins in paradise I'd blow up the Crystal Palace ground...

Ideally a redeveloped Selhurst or the CPP are more attractive options than somewhere like Purley Way, but they also have big problems attached to them.
I'm sure it may be the largest single area, but it isnt even close to "most". People are talking of moving seven miles. That's less than from White Hart Lane to the Olympic Stadium. Would you be happy to move seven miles north? Or seven miles east to Chistlehurst (as Bromley is the 2nd single largest area)?

If I wanted to follow Croydon Athletic, I would. I support Crystal Palace. Park of Selhurst are the only options.
You do realise that in the total of the recent poll that out of 629 votes only 52 voted for Southwark, Lambeth & Lewisham together with another 26 in "other South London boroughs"? I picked these out as they are north of Selhurst, where it appears hardly any of our actual support comes from.

I'm originally from Forest Hill (born in Beckenham) but no way do I see Palace as just a South London club and it's links to the Croydon area are very strong and should not be forgotten.

P.S

Selhurst Park is the easiest ground to get to in the UK in terms of public transport.
