This has happened BECAUSE of EPPP though, that is the reason the kids are at the school. There is always the chance other clubs will become interested in the players, but what is undoubted is Palace and their Academy have put the kids in this position and we need to show why they should stay. Other clubs cannot just take the players, they have to want to go too, and we need to show them why they should stay. |

Does EPPP require players to go to the educational facilities provided, or just that the club has to provide them. Small but important difference. Afterall if EPPP forced a child to go to Oasis rather than Whitgift, that could be very detrimental to the education and life should they not make the grade. |

Using Whitgift as an example, if they are offering scholarships based on sports ability in the first place, i guess they would be prepared to put various things in place if that is what they have to do to keep good footballers at their school. |

It is a choice that needs to be made, if players are fortunate enough for their parents to be able to afford to send them to a private school and they choose to leave to try to follow a career in football then fine, if they stay and as a result don't make it with us then that is also their opportunity. Schools like Whitgift give scholarships but they won't change their entire daily timetable to suit one or two players - they didn't with Lee Hills or Victor Moses when they went there. |

Really? The kids are at Oasis because Palace have a tie up with the school. Palace have atie up with the school because EPPP is coming and the regulations especially around education were known about. If EPPP was not on its way would we have had the tie up with Oasis? The fact it is coming and the fact we have that link means that EPPP has already had an effect! |

They didn't have to back then. Now they will have to in order to keep these players. |

Yes really, it has had nothing whatsoever to do with their success on the pitch

You are wrong, in my opinion. The reason these schools offer 100%(+) scholarships is that they want to win national titles themselves. School comes first, before club etc. |

EPPP is rendered rather meaningless due to the ages of the players. I suspect most will have a scholarship of some sort that ties them to the club, which in turn takes them out of the compensation system of EPPP and places them into the conventional transfer system.
Once a player turns 14, if they are any good it is likely they will be offered a scholarship which renders EPPP's compensation system obsolete. As far as I know, Palace linked up with Oasis before EPPP was being discussed, but it might have been due to EPPP. It is unclear as to whether the club must have a separate school ON SITE for all the players, or if they are allowed a link up as Palace and Watford currently have. The Watford guy said that the committee kept moving the goalposts so no-one was actually sure.

Every school wants to look good in league tables academically, and every single wants to be successful in sport, but that is as far as it goes, schools compete with other schools. Most schools offer the same percentage scholarship to pupils whether they play for Palace or just are very good at football. This whole "in order to keep these players" nonsense is just that. Children and their parents decide what school they go to. If Palace don't like that, they don't play for Palace. If Palace recommend another school for them to go to and they believe the benefits outweigh the cons, they will go there. Whitgift and other schools like it will not change their timetable to offer what are quite frankly excessive sport levels for pupils who will have no career in sport on the off chance that they get the odd pupil go through their school who happens to make it in football. |

My comment has only ever been IF they wanted to keep Academy players at their school they will need to change. Your argument is that they will choose not to, which i agree is the most likely but you never know. Your chances of winning national titles without any Academy player is low, but not impossible. Unless the national school football authorities restrict the use of Academy players these competitions will more than likely be won by the schools with Academy tie-ups. Therefore schools like Whitgift will have a decision to make on if they want to chase sporting glory to the extent they have in recent years. |
