Recovering photos from a micro SD card..
I've got a micro sd card that was in my digital camera. I didn't format it before I got it on holiday and after a few days of photo taking, the camera said "Card needs to be formatted". Now the card isn't readable when plugged into my computer and if I am to format it I will lose the photos.

Basically, is there anyway of retrieving the photos from the disk once its formatted? Any ideas? I would be nice to get these photos back

First things first don't use the camera with the sd card in. Connect the camera with the sd card in via the USB cable . Google a free program called Recuva and then try a full deep scan on the memory card

Have you tried reading the card in something other than your camera?

As the previous poster says, you must not use the camera with the card in and certainly do not format it.

There are several programmes which allow you to recover lost or corrupted data. In fact, if you get hold of the July edition of Computer Shopper, there's a free version of O&O Media Recovery 6 which might well be just what you need.

No I haven't tried it in anything apart from the camera, I wasn't sure if it was the camera being shit so I tried it in my phone and it wanted to format it straight away.

What should I use to connect my card to the pc? My phone? My laptop doesn't have a way of connecting it with my sd card.. (sorry for being a complete tit)

A USB Card Reader would be best - something like THIS should be OK.

As above - use a recovery program, or failing that most camera shops can recover the data for you - but be warned, it could also pull back those dodgy photos that you have deleted hoping never to be seen again! :-)

Well, I am sure your friend can help, but he will only be using the same tools we have recommended above. Why pay £25 or more to recover files if you can do it for nothing?

Sounds to me like the photos taken were never on the sd card, as it hasn't been formatted, some digital cameras have a small amount of internal memory which is enough for a few photos.

Try connecting the camera to the computer without the sd card in it and see if you can locate any the photos you took on an internal drive.

I very much doubt it. Practically all SD Cards come ready formatted. However, if a camera detects an error, it can appear that the card is not formatted.

Additionally, if the thread starter had been attempting to take pictures on internal memory, he would only have managed a couple before a 'memory full' message popped up.

So, no, I don't think Neil is right here.
