Beckham Not Selected for Team GB
Surprised, i thought he would be a dead cert for it considering the work he done with the Olympic committee.
I still think he would have been a good addition as an overage player. |

Agree - and a bit of a kick in the teeth for him after all the ambassador work he has done. But then again - taekwondo leave out the world number 1...... And do we really have confidence in Pearce as a manager?

Micah Richards, Craig Bellamy and Ryan Giggs have been picked as the over-23 players. . Not sure I want to support a team with Craig Bellamy playing really.

Shame for Becks, but we have better options than him, will the football sell out? If we had Beckham i'm sure we would have done.

i've no doubt he can still deliver a dead ball better than anyone else and i think it's a shame he's not in the squad.Personally, I would have him at the Euros.

A ******* disgraceful decision. Disgraceful.
Stuart Pearce should be utterly ashamed of himself. To pick Micah Richards ahead of him as the 3rd over aged player is beyond a joke, considering there are right backs under the age of 23 (Clyne?!) who should have been chosen. The man has done so much for football in this country and to not acknowledge that with a spot in the squad is completely disrespectful. I'm ******* pissed off at this; he REALLY wanted this. He has spent so much time and effort travelling back and forth from Los Angeles to London for special olympic events leading up to this summer. To then go and say 'Sorry, but your not in the squad' is a real kick in the teeth for a man that whatever people say, has been an ambassador for the sport across the world, let alone our country.

good post davematt and I fully agree. It's not as if it is the World Cup or the Euros anyway.
Beckham should be in the squad... |

The biggest joke about Richards being selected of course is that he refused to play for england in Euro 2012.

He may be getting on abit but he should have definitely been selected.
He was part of the bid, has been a great Ambassador for this country - Stuart Pearce - big mistake |

Thought it was a given, he would be in the squad
Why would you pick Bellamy though?

To pick Micah Richards over him seems a bit odd, considering it wasn't long ago that he refused to be on standby for Euro 2012...

Presumably he's picked Richards with an eye to giving him international experience, partly because he missed Euro 2012.
Does anyone give a stuff about Olympic football and the GB team? As far as I'm concerned, the only good thing about it is that's it given me an opportunity to see a couple of games at the north London stadium, Hampden Park. |

Actually, the more I think about the more I think it’s a ******* outrageous decision to leave out Beckham. Here’s a man that would walk over burning coals to play for his country and he has put himself out time and time again to fly the flag in so many ways. He puts bums on seats AND he still knows how cross a ******* football – our two worst players in the Euros were Ashley Young and James Milner, while Theo Walcott continues to be consistently inconsistent. Beckham would only need to be brought for 20mins or so to make a difference. It’s a tragedy. Hope he gets to light the flame or something…

Richards REFUSED to be on stand by, the big headed twat. He would have gone in the end if he didn't let his big ego get in the way after the injury to Gary Cahill. So you reward him with a spot in the Olympic squad ahead of David Beckham. I pray for the life of me that Stuart Pearce isn't the long term replacement for Roy Hodgson,

I'm not as bothered as some on here. If he still felt he was good enough to represent his country then he should have continued to challenge himself at better leagues than the MLS. Can't have it both ways I'm afraid.

I cant understand why football is even part of the Olympics. The number of tickets still on sale for it show that plenty of people feel the same.
That said Beckham has done more than most to get the Olympics to London and seems desperate to be involved. Would have been a nice touch to include him and a great influence for the young players involved to have around. Definitely a much better influence than Craig Bellemy. |

Maybe Stuart Pearce is trying to win it. Sentiment doesn't come into it.
