Urgent Help Required
Ok guys, urgent request for help.
Background. My wonderful wife has got me tickets as a birthday present for us both for Springsteen in Hyde Park on the 14th. Due to crap planning on both our parts I will have to cut short a pre planned weeks fishing trip to the Welsh borders to get back on the Friday evening. As we live in Dorset it had been an idea to drive towards London and find a suitable hotel outside the congestion zone with excellent public transport links to Hyde Park, either over or underground. The wife is disgusted that I haven't come up with the perfect solution as, unlike her, i grew up in London. (i'd add that, as I grew up in London, I had no need to know good hotels to stay at and, as the congestion zone didn't even exist, how would I know where it was in relation to potential suitable hotels?) So, a question to the BBS masses, can anyone recommend a suitable hotel, with parking that is outside the Congestion Zone but close to excellent transport links to Hyde Park. Anyone? Please

We recently decided to see London as tourists with the children and stayed the night in the Grovesnor in Park Lane. A room was about £150 and obviously just across the road from the concert. Don't have a clue if prices much higher due to Olympics etc. Quick check of their website tells me it is just under £190 for a superior room that night. Sure you can get it cheaper via the discount sites or calling direct and asking. 5 star treat for Mrs B and no danger of you yokels getting lost on public transport although please be careful crossing the busy road! |

Really does depend how much you're looking to pay. The hotels on Park Lane are ideally situated and outside of the congestion zone but cost a bomb. Alternatively there's plenty of small cheap and grotty hotels dotted around Pimlico. Or if you just want a crashpad the Tune Hotel in Westminster is dirt cheap and clean enough. Without knowing your budget it's difficult to recommend anywhere.

I'm a grandad now, not been near central for 10 years. The only oysters I've purchased since then have arrived on ice. I honestly have no experience of congestion charges, good hotels or current public transport so am hoping for help from those whose experience is way more current than mine.

H doesnt really do small cheap and grotty hotels, whilst I personally don't give a stuff. Was hoping for a VFM BBS recommendation but, from the posts so far, it looks like the only real suggestion is one of the better Central London hotels where IIRC parking costs a fortune.
