Things to do in Broadstairs when you're dead...
The missus and me are off to Broadstairs for a dirty weekend. I was hoping the good ship BBS might have have some suggestions on nice places to eat, places to visit, pubs to drink in, sites to take in etc. Any tips would be greatly recieved. Thanks

Great place ! Have family who live there. Go for a drink in the Albion Hotel overlooking Viking Bay, food is good too, washed down with a nice Shepherd Neame ale or two. Tartar Frigate is also a good pub, right by the beach, down on Harbour Street, if you like seafood I would go here. Not cheap, mind. If you like Thai I can greatly recommend Thai Four Two, which is a few minutes walk from the front. They have no licence so you can bring your own drink. I would recommend a walk into Ramsgate along the coastline. The harbour at Ramsgate is rather nice. Have fun !

Always went there as a kid and went back a couple of years ago with my lad. Love the place. Just an old fashioned seaside town! Wouldn't say there are millions of things to do but chill out and enjoy. They normally have some folk music festival around this time of year too, that's quite a giggle!
Enjoy.

Not been yet, but Charles Dickens' house is there and has been turned into a museum, if you're in to that sort of thing.

Make sure you take a walk under the natural arch at Kingsgate Bay. There is a pub up on the cliff where you can park (and have decent food)> or park at Joss bay and walk along. It is lovely, lots of caves too. Make sure tide is out a bit to walk the arch.

The pub mentioned is the Captain Digby, worth a visit especailly if nice weather to sit outside. Know Broadstairs very well, my Mum lives there. Her current fave for food is the Albion so can second what Thanet said. Agree with doing the walk from Broadstairs along to Ramsgate. There's a Casino at the Westwood Shopping Centre if you're that way inclined, reasonable food in there too. I'm next off there for a few days on 27th July, first stop Margate friendly. ![]() |

I was there a couple of days ago the Albion is an absolute must, garden out the back overlooks the bay and beach, also right next to it is a little tourist information place.

Am going to see James and Echo and the Bunnymen at the end of the month and am staying in ramsgate. Are there any decent, alternative, indie orientated pubs, bars or clubs in the area?

Used to stay in the Albion. They had a 'State of the art' Space Invaders machine me and my bro used to love playing on in one of the lounges (well I was 10!!) Those were the days!! Yeah, the Captain Digby is worth a visit for sure!

I had lunch at that pub in my only visit there. Was fasinated by the castle. When I got home I Googled what I now know to be Kingsgate Castle. It has been turned into 31 flats which are only 10% more expensive then a similar one in Croydon. I get updates when one comes on the market. Hope to get one in a few years time or at least have a look round one. Don't know anything about the area though.

Used to go there alot as a kid. Morrelli’s ice cream was very nice. Beaches are very good, Botany bay/Joss bay come highly recommended. Nice cliff top walks. Shell Grotto used to fascinate me as a kid, tucked away between Cliftonville/Margate. Not sure if The Indian Princess is still there, but this was a Michelin-rated restaurant a few years back. The menu gives locally-sourced ingredients a modern Indian twist with dishes like Bengali-style sea bass |

Ambretti restuarant in Margate is excellent. Modern Indian food and not too expensive.

Have been a regular visitor to The Stairs as my parents used to live there...
Avoid the Tamarind in Albion St, but the two Italians opposite are both pretty good. I think the Albion Bookshop lingers on as a 2nd hand emporium opposite its old premises. (There is an immaculately maintained crazy golf course) |

The Turner gallery has proved very successful to date and Margate Old Town has undergone a transformation with art gallaries, pop-up shops and retro boutiques. Rest of the Margate still has a depressing air about it.
