According to his twitter, well he was agreeing with someone who said it and repeated it 'he is definitely a choc ice!'

It's not racist though 'because it's only a slang term.'

I'm sure there's a few slang terms out there if I used to twitter to Ferdinand I'd probably end up in front of a judge for.

It's racist. An insult based on the colour of someone's skin is, by its very nature, racist.

As for the 'slang' excuse, words like the 'n-word' clearly originated as slang, so how he believes it exonerated him I don't know.

The tone and nature of the phrase implies that a) there is a difference between being and thinking like a white person and being and thinking like a black person and b) that if you think like a white person it is a bad thing.
