The booing of Steve Bruce
Its been a long long long time since we've had a game where a member of the opposition has got grief for the entire 90 minutes. I think the last time may well have been against Birmingham when Bruce was in charge!
But Do we still hate this guy? I mean he's a Man U twat regardless of whether or not he walked out on us when we were top of the league but I must admit that my passionate disliking of him has faded slightly. There is also the new self righteous CP fan these days who will not pay any attention to the opposition and will be 100% focuses on getting behind the team. However, even these chaps will probably struggle for an excuse not to join in if they have ill-feeling for Mr Bruce as the game is in March and we may be safely mid-table by then not threatening either end of the table. I suppose the real question then is. Do we still care? and if we don't still care are we going to just boo him anyway because its fun to be childish ?

Always good to Boo Bruce.
But sincfe the game is not until March you may be being a "bit" (i.e. tons) premature.

If we start booing now, we'll have run out of steam by then.

Booing to me always seems a bit childlike and completely inoffensive. I mean, if someone came into the office and started going 'boo' at me I can't say I would feel uneasy.

It is so long past the time to move on that we should probably be moving on from moving on by now. In any case persistant booing is a great motivator - ask Kevin Miller, it would probably get the Hull team to play out of their skins.

If someone came into my office and stood there booing at me, I'd be very un-nerved as they would clearly have a screw loose and it would, at the very least, be embarrassing as its not normal! If I was booed at a football match it wouldn't really bother me but I would be aware that I wasn't a hero of the booers. Boosing however is entirely different and is almost a necessity before any Palace match |

We never did hear his side of things (did we?) as to why he walked out on us due to the injunction taken out by Tangoman to prevent him from telling all.

Bruce gained a lot of respect back from me when he showed up for Geoff's charity Man Utd rematch. Also, Simon Jordan named him in his book in a thank you list so he has clearly forgiven him.
No boo from me.

Surely the last time anyone got a match-full of abuse was Jay Simpson when he played for Hull.

Time to move on with regard to Bruce I think.
Anyway, I feel that often the booing just feeds some already over-inflated egos. Booing venables when he came back with Leeds was just one such occasion. |

The man gave us some of the best months supporting Palace that many can remember. He fell out with a man who most people in and out of football have fallen out with.

IIRC we spent more time singing 'shut up, sit down' rather than actually booing SB.

I don't think he did fall out with Jordan actually. Jordan seems to always say they are still good friends. The whole charade when he left was about Jordan getting compensation for Bruce moving which we all supported him on.
Jordan made a lot of poor decisions and there is understandable nagative feeling towards him but have to give credit where it is due and at this stage (before he got fed up with the wankers involved in football) he was a passionate palace fan owner trying to make us a successful club.

We were top of the league and he walked out and took another team up. Unforgivable from our point of view but its 10 years ago now and what he did proved the right thing from his point of view. No point booing and no hate from me. If anything I think he is a good manager and will be interesting to see how he does. Also agree with Gonzo. Brief period in our history but seven wins on the trot and the football played was great in some of those games.
